    Great topic!

    1: Shenmue 1 & 2
    2: Metal Gear Solid Series
3: GTA Series (San Andreas being the Best)
4: Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
    5: Pro Evolution Soccer (98 to 2008)

Really hard not to post some of the older titles as I know as a kid they were favourites but obviously not as good as todays standards. Streets of Rage 2 is one of my all time favourite games and as a 10 year old was amazing but playing it now obviously there is not much to it!

Personally i think some older games were better than many of todays standards.
While graphics have improved and the player environment is infinitely more interactive, we've lost the simplicity and addictiveness that many retro games had.

But then I might just be old and jaded hehehe

No I agree, apart from graphics most gaming genres haven't moved on a great deal and in some areas are highly lacking in the originality department.

Yea I understand what you guys are saying. It's hard to rate on that kind of basis really as Best games vs favourite games could possibly come up different. I've to go by the amount of work that went into a game by the developers as well and how a game made me feel. Shenmue without doubt is my favourite and what I would consider the best game ever made. It had everything, groundbreaking when it came out bringing a new genre to consoles. I could of put FIFA12 above Pro Evolution as FIFA12 is probably the greatest Football game ever made but when I think back to them 10 years from 98 to 2008 and how much fun and time I spent playing the Pro Evolution series it makes up for more than FIFA right now.

Certain games don't even get a mention in the top 5 and yet I remember being astounded by them when I first played them. Tomb Raider on the Sega Saturn was mind blowing when it came out.

    Something like this

    Guild Wars
Return to Castle Wolfenstein (PC multiplayer)
    Call of Duty
    Dungeon Keeper
    Goldeneye (N64)

I played a hella lot of MapleStory and Puzzle Pirates in my teens, not so nowadays.

Off the top of my head, in no particular order...

    Final Fantasy X
Rome: Total War (although M2TW is close to equaling it)
    X3: Terran Conflict
    SimCity 3000
    Theme Hospital

Damn, it's hard to pick just five.... could have easily listed many more but I would probably wear my keyboard out
