A button that says 'Navigate' would normally load the original MyGuide software, and as your maps no longer match the license you will get that error.

Have you put the ADDONS.TXT file supplied by gmcmen in post #1696 on the root of your SD card? And also, if you are using a card reader rather than activesync, make sure you reset the MyGuide using the button on the back after any file changes.

If you want to restore the original software (albeit an unlocked version so your MyGuide maps should work) you need to follow the guide in gmcmens post #1691.

I would consentrate on getting iGo8 working for now, as it is a considerable improvement on the original software.

Thank you DM, I would really want my IGO8 to work too, but it is still not reading the maps as expected.

What next can I do?

You don't say what you have done.

Have the button options now changed on the initial myguide screen when you power the unit on?

Have you successfully managed to start iGo8 from a button?

Does it all work but no just no maps are present?

How are you putting the maps into the maps folder, and what file names do you have in there? Are you extracting them from the downloaded archive first?

Hello DM,

I have managed to start IGO8 to the navigation point. The only thing missing is the maps that can not be accesed.

I put the Basemap and UK map in the Content/maps. The file ext is .fbl

Yet I can seem to get the maps accesed.

This is how far I have gone. Please lets forget about Myguide GPS and focus on IGO8. I like the GUI of the IGO8.

I let it on and the signals can be seen, but just no maps yet.

Yes I extract them from the downloaded archive first. The question I have is where is the root folder on the SD? Should I drop the UK folder or copy and paste the fbl ext file?

The root of the SD card just means the 'top level', ie. the area that opens first when you open the SD card in explorer.

In that area you should see your addons.txt file along with an igo8 folder.

You only put the .fbl files into the map folder, not the UK folder that they are packaged in.

From within igo8, can you go to the 'About' section and see what info it gives regarding version no., maps, license etc. This info could be useful.

Also, bear in mind if you have no gps signal, then your current position could be in the middle of a large area of nothing!

I have done as instructed about the maps. The About position gives me, Nav N Go IGO8
8.0.0.41506, june 3 2008 with the website and info mail address.

At the bottom part it shows me maps, credits, safety, legal

I am in the house now. Does it mean that I have to access the GPS signal before the map can load?

And what does it say if you tap the map tab? Is there one for license?

You need a GPS signal before the map will show where you are. My comment was a long shot, but if they unit currently thinks you are in the middle of the ocean for example, then the map will appear to be blank.

Click on the maps button and see what maps are listed.

Are you using a card reader?

The only map shown is the basemap.fbl

The UK and Ireland maps are not shown. The three maps are within the same folder in IGO8/contents/maps

Yes am using a card reader on my laptop. I reset the device each time i bring it out to add any file.

I presume you mean that you reset after you put the card back in?

Can you go to the maps folder on the SD card using explorer and list exactly the files that are in that folder please.

Thought about it, especially when I thought the new MyGuide which appeared on Ebuyer recently came with a version of iGo8 on it.

I had hoped the the newer unit might have a performance boost, but I'm not too sure now that it would be much of an improvement (other than the battery).

I'll probably stick with my batteryless 3100 for a while longer. It's been a great little device after all!

I have Basemap, Ireland and UnitedKingdom7PPC in the folder. I accessed it through the explorer on myguide itself.
The only folder absent is the .dems for UK and Ireland

Those Ireland and UK maps don't look right. Are they from the download link I gave you previously?

The UK map should be as follows:

UnitedKingdom7PPC_2008_10.fbl 28/02/2009 14:10 91,752 KB

Please can you give me the links again to have a fresh download?

Is it the same post on #1705? If yes, I am downloading now.

This thread has gotten huge over time!!!1

Would anyone be so kind as to post a comprehensive list of download locations for those of us that would like to upgrade to iGO 8.3 with UK Maps and Western Europe / France maps please?
(Been successfully running iGO8 for ages now but would like to upgrade to get rid of some of it's foibles : mainly the zoom-out-lock-view at roundabouts!)

Any essential skins and TTS voice files also would be awesome.

I hope nobody (those that are in the know) considers this request too cheeky but as I said at the start of my post, this thread is hard to search through now and post #1000 seems to be a little out-of-date in this respect.

Yes, there are some improvements. Off the top of my head...the main ones are the improved lane information on the maps, and the ability to switch off that annoying (in my opinion) zooming out and view locking at roundabouts (need to add a setting to the sys.txt file to do this). It probably runs a bit smoother and should be more stable, although I never had many issues with the version in post #1000. There are other changes, but they escape me at the moment! It's more of an evolution than revolution.

Things to be aware of include:-
-v8.0 skins won't work with v8.3.
-v8.3 maps are required, but v8.0 .dem + .3d files etc should be compatible.
-There is a version of TTS which works only with 8.3 (the 8.0 version still works) which I consider to be an overall improvement, but which took me a while to customize to my requirements.

Once you have that working well and if you want to try something totally different have a go with iGO Amigo. This uses all the same content as 8.3, so there's not much to download. The only issue I've had with Amigo is that the TTS is slightly stuttery, so I just use a regular voice.

Give it a go, and see how you get on. You can leave the original iGO8 setup untouched if you have enough room on your card.

I currently run iGo2006Plus, iGo 8.0.0.41506 (both kept for sentimental reasons as I spent a huge amount of time modifying them), iGo 8.3.2.80621 (my everyday choice) and iGo Amigo v8.4.2.85182.

I'm sure I can assist with some of the mods if required.
Thanks for the reply Darkmatter,

Useful to know that I can keep 8.0 while playing with 8.3.
I will be away for a couple of weeks so will have a bash later.

OK so I can't wait 2 weeks. Had a bash before going away .

Installed iGO 8.3.2.83157. Took lang, voice and speedcam folders from my iGO 8 and also loquendo tts.

Early days but all seems to be running well. Nice clear maps. Motorway signs . My only slight concern is that my postcode does not exist on uk83 map (s12 4wq). Never had that before.
