I read all pages on the forum and managed to get igo2006, V7, tomtom and the original stuff showing on my screen. I even had speedcameras and everything!
Tomtom and Myguide were not working properly - TT message was 'no maps found' when loaded and Myguide gave me a 'maps locked' message. In my tinkering i seem to have deleted something vital because it wont even go past the initial myguide load page when switched on.

Even worse i thought i had better cut my losses and go back to my original software and my 'original' folder on my desktop (saved specially for moments such as this) ...is empty! So i am stuck, cant go back and have no idea how to move forward. Is there a way to 'hard reset' this device, the reset button seems to be making no difference.

Can anyone help?

Cheers!
Read my instructions in this post and it should cure your problem.

If you have a card slot, I would recommend getting yourself a reasonably large SD card and do all your experimenting with that, leaving the original configuration alone.

I don't have any experience of a unit set up like yours, but hopefully the same tricks will work. With the price of decent SD cards so low you don't have too much to lose.

Maybe someone else has a unit like yours who can better advise you.
At the end, you are carrying the software to the SD card, right? And you are deleting the internal memory, I guess. If you do so, I will have no problem since the only difference is my maps are also on the internal memory of the device. Am I right?

No you do not have to delete the internal software, you can run the new one from the SD card along side the original. Darkmatter has created an "addons.txt" to be put on the root of the SD card, this will give you a second button on your screen for the iGO software.

No if I am correct they are ".poi" files for iGO 8.

If you are trying to add custom poi's, rather than just trying to get the standard poi's to work.....

Have a look at www.poiplaza.com.

The files downloaded from here have a .kml extension, and you can use them in iGO8 as follows:

1. Unzip the downloaded file. Copy the chosen file with .kml extension file to iGO8/content/userdata/poi folder on memory card. Restart iGO 8.

2. Locate the chosen file in Manage/POI menu. With the Edit command choose Visibility and Icon. The default icon is Google Earth's globe.

This is probably the easiest way to add custom poi's, but relies on the data being in the .kml format.

If your chosen poi's are in .csv format (or tomtom .ov2), then you can use 'IGO POI Explorer' (http://inetcom.hu/mick/igo/) to convert them to the .kml format.

If you have had to create folders then something has gone wrong, or you have put them in the wrong place.

I see. Thank you for your great help. I will write you more about details when I start to make changes. I got the idea of "having maps on the internal memory originally is not a problem."

Wink Beginners step by step guide for installing iGO8 and TomTom on the MyGuide 3100.

Note that none of these steps involve changing anything on the internal 'flashdisk' or original SD card, and are easily reversible.

Step 1. Get hold of a fast (150x) 2GB SD card. Smaller cards will be fine in most cases, but it's worth having the extra space for expansion given the relative cheapness of these cards.

Step 2. Copy the contents of your original myguide card to the new card (preferably using a card reader for speed), keeping the folder structure exactly the same as the original card. Insert the new card into the unit and reset using the button on the back. Check that the original MyGuide software is still working as normal. Put the original MyGuide SD card somewhere safe. To restore the unit to its original state you merely need to insert this original SD card and hit the reset button on the back.

Step 3. Download and extract the following archive to the root of the SD card http://rapidshare.com/files/128143536/myguide8.zip.html (password for the zip is 'myguide'). You should then have a new folder (along with the 'MyGuide' folder created in step 2) on the root of the SD card called 'iGO8', with all the relevant program files in it.

This archive contains the latest June 3rd 2008 release of iGO8. It includes TMC Pro (requires a TMC antenna), working 'Text To Speech' (with one voice included) and fully functioning UK speedcams (June 08 release with over 13000 cameras). The included TTS voice is fully patched with my previous changes, and the speedcam alerts are fully functional provided you stick with the iGo8_Plus_DM1.1 skin provided (which should be activated by default).

Step 4. To use the newly installed program on the MyGuide you will need to download this file http://rapidshare.com/files/124251081/ADDONS.TXT.html and place it in the root folder of the SD card alongside your 'MyGuide' and 'iGO8' folders. Alternatively, if you already have other programs running from your SD card, you can edit your existing ADDONS.TXT file to include the required code. Then reset the unit again using the button on the back. This will create the button needed in the MyGuide menu to access iGO8.

You should now have a working version of igo8 (but with no maps etc).

You will then need to download the required 'content' files which are placed in the appropriate folders within igo8/content/ eg. maps, poi, terrain, buildings etc. I would start just with maps and pois to get you up and running.

You can currently get all the content for iGO8 you need from these links.

content/building (enables 3d buildings in some cities)
http://rapidshare.com/users/4AXDO6

content/dem (3d terrain)
http://rapidshare.com/users/BWYII5

content/poi (points of interest)
uk - http://uploaded.to/?id=kmfq05
http://rapidshare.com/files/114655588/europe-poi.rar

content/map
http://rapidshare.com/users/55KH8G
UK - http://rapidshare.com/files/13982469...80313.rar.html

The password for the folders and for the .rar archives above is 'ppcwarez'.

Another source for maps, pois etc.
http://www.volny.cz/sstopar/mio_mapy_igo8.html
http://ppcmobiles.blogspot.com/2008/...pocket-pc.html

You may need an application to extract .rar archives, in which case I recommend the free 7zip - http://www.7-zip.org

Have fun ....but if it all goes horribly wrong...dont blame me !
This is the most up to date info at the moment, thank goes to "DarkMatter", so I have edited this post as it is #1000.

For iGO 8.3 download this:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=M38GYGAN

For TomTom 7
download this file: http://uploaded.to/?id=bb1hj8
extract and place all files on root of SD Card.
Thats it.
addons.txt is for iGO 8 and TomTom, if you have games or other stuff you will need to amend it.

Wow, that's the 1000 posts barrier broken.

When I first posted, back on the first page, I wouldn't have imagined that this little device would have taken up quite so much of my time.

I've quite enjoyed it though.

EDIT: I've awarded myself a shiny new avatar to celebrate this historic occasion. Sorry if looks a bit similar to yours gmcmen!

loving this new Igo 8 - thanks for all the help pointing in the right directions and with setting it up.

Could I ask if any of you have actually tried that 4.3" Navigo satnav that ebuyer are now selling for £85 at moment to compare? Is it just as easy to modify? but most importantly, I was wondering if having the extra 72mhz in speed will make a notable difference when it comes to displaying buildings, recalculations, etc Plus it seems it supports up to 4gb cards without problem which could be handy

Edit this line in the addons.txt file using notepad:

iGO8 = "", "\\Storage Card\\iGO8\\igo.exe"

Change it to:

iGO8 = "", "\\Storage Card\\iGO8\\igo8.exe"

I thought I had used the addons.txt from my current setup as the basis for the one I uploaded, but to be honest I've got so many different versions of files floating around for this thing I probably got it wrong.

Sorry.

I'd better double check my original post #982 and fix the download!

EDIT: Yep, my mistake. If anyone else is having trouble with the instructions in post #982 please use this addons.txt file http://rapidshare.com/files/124251081/ADDONS.TXT.html

Also loving the Igo8. Like the buildings, but the terrain doesn't seem to be making much difference, green next to the road for fields, but no sign of hills etc.

Can anyone possibly point me in the direction of POIs for Florida ?

Thanks again to all who have guided me to this point

Default problem with speed cams

Myguide3100 with iGo2008. I downloaded speedcam.txt from http://www.gps-support.eu/speedcam_index.php, put it in content/speedcam folder, then restarted unit. Press iGo2008 and Igo2008 starts. I get : initializing warning data and after few minutes the unit restarts and I am back to main menu! When I try to start iGo agai I get next message: The application failed to start last time. Do you want to reset to factory defaults and lose all your POIs, tracks and settings?? yes/ no
What am I doing wrong?

Try setting a test route somewhere in a hilly area of Scotland (quite easy in the 'plan on map' mode), then running a simulation. You may need to use the zoom controls to lower the horizan a bit, but you should see some reasonable terrain. For the majority of the UK it does look fairly flat unfortunately.

Doing a quick search turned up the following:

http://rapidshare.com/files/11512921...part1.rar.html
http://rapidshare.com/files/11514161...part2.rar.html
http://rapidshare.com/files/11515606...part3.rar.html
http://rapidshare.com/files/11512235...part4.rar.html

I'm afraid it's for all states, so it's a large multi-part download. You will need to download all four parts then extract the archive and just pull out the poi files for the states you want. Hopefully, you have a reasonably fast connection!

I can't see anything obviously wrong with the file from that site (apart from the speeds being in kmh, but it should be able to handle that).

As a test, delete everything from your content/speedcam folder. Then try again with this file:

http://rapidshare.com/files/12431542...mText.txt.html

If that works, then you need to play 'spot the difference' with the two files.

To all of you guys (and gals!) who answer all of our questions and put time into being on the forum - cheers for all your hard work!

Odd, I know that file works fine, so there must be a problem elsewhere.

Which version of iGO8 are you using? What is the size of the data.zip that you are using? Are you using any skins?

You don't need speedcam.spdb and speedcamUpdates.spud as it will create those files automatically if they are missing.

The problem will have most likely been the data.zip, which I suspect was mismatched to the version you are using.

Glad you got it sorted anyway.

Thanks DM. I had found the same links, but was hoping for a link to Florida only. Guess I should stop being lazy and just download them all

Thanks again for al your efforts.

I really should not have been lazy, as the Florida POIs are in the first part of the four !!! LOL

Default Too good to last

Oh dear! MyGuide display has developed a fault in the liquid crystal layer - much distortion when screen is lightly touched. Tried to get an RMA for it so that it can be replaced/repaired (purchased in December, so just under 6 months old), but eBuyer won't play. Since this is clearly a QC problem, I guess I'll have to go down the legal route. Shame that an otherwise good bit of kit should be let down in this way.

Anyone else had a similar problem?

I have edited post #1000 to contain the most up to date info from DarkMatter, this may be easier to refer people to that post.

Default Battery Problem

Since this is clearly a QC problem, I guess I'll have to go down the legal route. Shame that an otherwise good bit of kit should be let down in this way.

Anyone else had a similar problem?
This may be related, I was having a similar problem, the screen looked as if someone had there finger on it . Very shortly after I had battery problems, the battery would discharge from 100% to 0 in mins , after a quick search on Google I found I was not the only one with battery problems. Then the next problem arose the "reset" button stuck inside the unit , so as there seemed to be no support for the problems, I decided to open the unit up and have a look at what was going on. The first thing I noticed was it had a "polymer battery"
(battery cells encased in plastic not metal) but the plastic was swollen like a balloon. My conclusion was that the battery swelling had pushed the outer casing away from the pcb allowing the button to go inside. I replaced the battery with a Sanyo camera battery and rebuilt the unit,
and guess what the screen problem was cured, probably the battery applying pressure to the pcb caused it (thats my explanation).
So that said it was now working again.

Good idea. I should be able to remember that number.

While you had your unit open gmcmen, did you take any pictures that you can share?
