take a walk over to http://www.skyuser.co.uk there are all the guides you could ever need there..including extracting the sky username and password from your router ;)

edit: more to the point:
http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/technical-discussion/5243-how-obtain-your-username-password-sky-router.html

edit2: you can log into the web interface by going to a browser and typing the IP address of the router and the username is admin and the password is sky if you haven't already changed it

I am using a Sky-supplied Netgear DG834GT on Be Internet. Obviously I had to reflash the firmware to break the Sky lock, but the Sky firmware is pants anyway. Using firmware version 1.02.09, this has been the most stable router I've ever owned. I've not had to reset this once in about three months, and I have it running 24/7. I am surrounded by wireless networks, use it wirelessly with multiple devices and host my own website and email server, so that is really saying something about this router. There is a newer firmware out, 1.02.13, but I found that this broke Windows Live Messenger, so reverted back to 1.02.09.

Thanks for your help.I still have problems trying to get the Buffalo router to work.On the setup i am asked for a username and password.I have now got them.
The username has 19 digits and the password has 10 digits.I have entered these a number of times without succes. What about flashing the router firmware is this another option.I am not to sure how to do this and what it does.Am i correct in saying it removes the Sky username and password and updates to netgear settings. In that case how does it it help to use another router.Sorry to seem a bit thick here but i cant see the wood for the trees. Regards Mark:confused:

Are you sure you are entering your ADSL authentication username and password, and not just a normal sky email username/password? I'm not sure how Sky operate, but this is a common problem, particularly with BT routers.

There is some info on getting the router authentication info here: http://www.asininemonkey.com/netgear-dg834gt-hacking.html#URL_Injection

If you do in fact have the correct info, then I would start looking at your Buffalo ADSL settings. If you are using an auto-config feature it might not be picking up the correct settings automatically, meaning you will need to track them down and enter manually.

If the Sky router you have is a DG834GT then I definately think it is worth flashing to Netgear firmware v1.02.09. Do bear in mind that this is against Sky's terms and conditions, so do so at your own risk.

All the info you need is here: http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/view-flash.html

Make sure you spend some time reading it before you attempt the flash.

Correct.

I can log in to the router via the ip addy ok but cant seem to get any further?

Why can't you get any further? Is the router config page not showing? Or do you not know what settings to put in? I'm afraid I can't help you with your Sky settings because I don't have Sky myself.

If i upgrade the firmware on the Sky Router how will it help me to connect with my new Buffalo unit.Thankyou Mark.

It won't, you need to choose which unit you want to work with. Personally I think you stand a better chance of getting the flashed Netgear working properly than the Buffalo.

Hi,After getting the username and password from the Sky Router i tried to set up a Buffalo router WBMR -G125.I connected via a lan cable and entered the ip addy and the username and password only to find the router would hang after hitting apply. No amount of messing about would work including calls to Buffalo support.I then realised my Daughters PC runs XP not Vista so i ran a lan cable direct to the router YIPEEE it connected and i then set up the wifi with no issues what so ever. The signal strength is top notch and rock solid. So it seems that this being a brand new product has some issues with Vista (not good).Still all good now and lesson learnt.Thankyou to all that helped me.Regards Mark:)

Hello.

I'm wondering if anyone is prepared to help me set up my Buffalo WBMR-G125 wireless router.

I'm with UK Online, I have a Voyager 105 USB ADSL Modem, a desktop computer and no technical knowledge on this subject whatsoever.

Do I even need the Voyager modem any more? In either case, I'm not really having any luck.

Many thanks in advance.

Boot up your pc then insert the cd that came with your router and follow the step by step instructions.I think you will find that if you have xp the installation will be fine.I had a few issues running Vista but i understand a patch is available at www.buffalotech.com
so download this if you need to.Regards Mark.:)

I've done it Dan. Ok so I used the same type of router..the Netgear jobbie, but I had it flashed with the custom uber GT firmware and it worked fine. Oh actually I also used a Thompson Speedtouch router and that also worked fine. Yes you can use your own router (officially the answer is no lol) just make sure you extract your username and password using url injection
