Thanks Bobf, ill do that tonight!

Although one moe question, i used Active Sync last night to connect to my My Guide, but when i chose 'explore' it opened my mobile device but there was no folders shown, nothing really.

I know ive done this before as ive copied the Speed Cams onto my Guide, but i dont know why for some reason last night i couldnt see any folders using the explore function on Active Snyc?

Anyone have this problem before?

This did happen to me a few times when I first got my unit, sometimes restarting the PC would correct it, sometimes I would have to re-install ActiveSync. Strangely - the only time it appears to happen now is if I'm running Nero software on the PC to write a DVD or CD

Hi again Bob,

files are zooming across ok so hopefully IGO will be on shortly.
I can see myguide folder on flash disk and sd card, is it safe to delete these folders as it seems a waste of space to have both.

re maps, I saw uk maps or UK maps in 2 parts, I'me not sure what I am supposed to use, if I download the 2 part one do I simply upload both into map folder or should I stick to 1

Lastly I assume myguide 3100 comes under PNA and I don't need to install the PDA software (unsure how much difference between the devices) but I opted for PNA

Thanks again
Kevin

Hmm, update as I write. IGO started to load using explorer button I added a while ago to the main interface but then hung, screen orientation wasn't good either so I turned off and on which didn't achieve anything (straight back to same hung page), so i reset at the back.. ooops,
now I've lost explorer and other buttons even though I've updated addons I still have the 2 factory buttons. Did another reset and it says it cannot find langsync.
Will post an update on this but it's gone a bit wrong.

Q, are file paths case sensitive?

Well I hit a bit of a wall, I thought I should be able to manage, I'm quite ok with this sort of stuff but nogo.

Then I figured I just need updated maps, not worried about media players etc, I just need a satnav that works, unfortunately the maps are locked and the licence link is invalid so still at square one.

Can anyone point me to the most recent UK map for MyGuide 3100 that will work for me, licence etc or instructions to unlock please. MyGuide support is a bit useless.

Hi Kevin,

You won't get more up to date maps to work with the original myguide software.

You need to install iGO2006 plus or similar to the SD card first, then obtain more recent maps for that software.

Are your original software and maps still working ok? If you have a fairly large SD card there is no need to alter or delete the original installation, that way it's always available as a fall back.

I must say that even the latest maps for TeleAtlas (as used by MyGuide, iGO, TomTom etc) are still badly out of date. They will still generally get you to your destination of course.

If the maps are a major issue for you then I would suggest you look at a solution that uses Navteq maps, as these seem to be generally regarded as the best. I may be wrong, but I believe that Destinator for PNA runs Navteq maps, although I personally havn't tried it.

Try here for starters

http://forum.ppcwarez.org/viewforum.php?f=237

Remember you are looking for PNA versions.

EDIT: Reading your post again I see that you are having problems with langsync. This suggests that you may have been a bit over eager with your deletions from the flahdisk!

Follow gmcmens instructions from post number #493. You'll feel much better when you get it back to standard again!

Got to agree with you about Teleatlas maps - awful awful things! Such a shame that the best software (by which I mean iGO of course) uses the worst maps.

Destinator does indeed use Navteq maps and even though the latest available are Q4 2006 they are still more up to date (in my experience) than Teleatlas.

For those wanting Destinator try post 573 for an easy to install SD image. Not the nicest software but perfectly usable and the TMC works as well.

Route66 also uses Navteq maps - see post 587 for that. Downside of Route66 is that it has no exit button - you have to reset to get out of it. However I did notice that if you start the program from Explorer (ie. get out of the MyGuide "loader" to windows and navigate to the route66 folder to launch the exe from there) then an exit button DOES appear

Cheers MarkC, I may well give that one a go.

I think I'll free up some space on my sd card by deleting miomap 3.3. I was only keeping it for the TTS voices, a duty now taken over by the final(ish) version of iGo8. Had a few teething problems with iGo8, but pretty much seems stable now (not entirely bug free though).

Are you by any chance Kram over at gpsunderground?

EDIT: Ok, I have it installed now. Won't win any beauty contests will it! Do you know how to alter the fonts so that they appear as they do in the tutorial screenshots?

Re. gpsu: yes

For changing fonts in Destinator look in the destinator\skin\all folder for a file called font.ini. You'll soon see how to change font size and weight (there are some helpful comments at the top). For an eg. I got lists to display more than 2 or 3 items by changing the font size from 16 to 10 and making i normal instead of bold.

;Screens
FONT_SCREEN_TITLE=Tahoma,16,0,B
;FONT_SHOW_MAP_TITLE_SMALL=Tahoma,14,0,B
FONT_SHOW_MAP_TITLE_SMALL=Tahoma,8,0,B
FONT_SHOW_MAP_TITLE_BIG=Tahoma,20,0,B
;FONT_SCREEN_LIST=Tahoma,16,0,B
FONT_SCREEN_LIST=Tahoma,10,0,R

BTW, I have never been able to use any Destinator skin other than the "standard" one - all the others completely screew up the display (you can't even get back to the menu from the map screen) I suspect that the others are carry overs from D6 and don't work with D7.

iGO 8: I've tried it, both on the MyGuide and on an Acer n30 PDA. It has some good points - the TTS actually works on the MyGuide whereas I was never able to get Mio's to work usably - too much stuttering and freezing of the map display.

iGo8's works reasonably well despite the horrid american voice file. Though truth to tell I don't especially want TTS. The display of 8 works very smoothly even on the n30 which is only a 266mhz cpu. But I don't like the UI - the map screen is cluttered and many of the icons too small to use easily and there is so little room left for the actual map display. I'm sure that better skins will come out (I've tried a couple of experimental ones).

I don't like that there is only one map display (no choice of "cockpit" or "map"). You can switch to an "overview" but it always seems to start zoomed out to about 20 miles.

The routing seems even more idiosyncratic than 2006's. On one test it sent me the wrong way into a one-way system and then, when I ignored it, spent then next half mile trying to get me to go left, left, left again to have another go at the same wrong-turn before finally realizing that I was now nearer to my destination than to the wrong-turn and relented. I think part of the reason that iGO's route recalculation is so fast is that it just tries to get you back onto the original route rather than routing you anew from "here". That's fair enough but it ought to be smart enough to realise that when you have ignored 2 or 3 instructions its time to try a new route.

I have to say that the voice guidance in 8 is much more better that than in 2006 - it flows more smoothly and the wording seems more natural too me.

But over all I don't really see much point in using it over 2006. OK so in the center of London you can see buildings and OK there is some (slightly unrealistic) terrain mapping but really, do I need it :)

Just one mans POV!

MarkC (What I really want is MioMap 3.2 with Navteq maps)

One HUGE dissadvantage of my My guide is that it still consumes the battery when not in use. It renders it useless if left unused as when you want to use it it has no power!! Is there a correct way of shutting it down so you can fully charge it, close it , and use it a few days later with a charge in the battery?

For changing fonts in Destinator look in the destinator\skin\all folder for a file called font.ini.

Cheers for that MarkC, I'll have a play later.

Re iGO8: I've now disabled TTS, as I kept suffering some pretty spectacular crashes which seemed to be linked to a memory issue. As you say, the new James (based on TTS Simon) and Kate regular voices are much improved anyway. There are still several bugs in the PNA version doing the rounds at the moment, so I wouldn't recommend it to anyone just yet. Hopefully a new 'final' version will appear soon!

Re the zooming on the map screen, did you know that these can be set at custom views by pressing and holding the icons at the bottom of the screen, in much the same way as you store a channel on a car radio?

One thing that does look interesting in iGO8 is the sheer number of options available in sys.txt, so you can now change things such as how early the speedcam warnings sound etc. There seem to be new skins appearing almost daily at the moment, so I'm pretty sure that soon (together with improved maps) there will be an iGO8 for everyones taste!

Here are some of the settings currently discovered (these may help with your zooming issue also):

Re Igo2006 plus, there is a new skin available for this which adds some features you may like, and I quote from another thread:

here is an AWESOME skin (for iGO 2006 ONLY) that started with Andy SK8 skin, but added MANY, MANY things, including "second manuver", POI names displayed on map (like Navigon), the ability to compare all route options on one screen (fast, easy, etc), and a bunch of other stuff...

Check it out:
Full skin: http://4pda.ru/forum/attach/1599485/dimka.rar
Latest update: http://4pda.ru/forum/attach/1602715/AndySK8_5_1d.zip

You need to get the full skin first, then you can just update the one file (the Andy*.zip file)...

AGAIN, THIS IS ONLY FOR IGO 2006 (but you'll probably never go back to iGO 8 again)!

Sorry if any of this is 'old news' to you, but hopefully someone will find it useful.:)

One HUGE dissadvantage of my My guide is that it still consumes the battery when not in use. It renders it useless if left unused as when you want to use it it has no power!! Is there a correct way of shutting it down so you can fully charge it, close it , and use it a few days later with a charge in the battery?

The only thing that will help slightly, is to make sure you exit the navigation software completely before switching off. It has been reported that this makes a difference, but note that the battery will always discharge if the unit is left for a while.

Sorry, can't find any screenshots at the moment. I guess it's going to be similar to the Andy Elliott skin that it is based on, but with the addition of a split screen (when you tap the street name at the bottom of the screen) for poi's and map, and a few other bells and wistles.

I think an english manual is in the pipeline.

I havn't tried it yet, but hope to get a chance in the next couple of days.

Why not give it a go and let us know what you think!:)

EDIT: OK so I couldn't wait! I must say it looks pretty good, and has a few really nice (and original) features. Definately worth a look. Now I just need to add my speedcam amendments.....

Well I've installed this and I must say it's a keeper for me.

I love the way you can hide the info bar that usually takes up a chunk of the left of the screen.

And the fact that you can store 4 "Favourite Destinations" is a neat touch.

Another excellent feature is the split screen toggle with a choice of displaying route info, an analogue speedo or a tab showing local POIs.

All-in-all this is an excellent skin and I love my MyGuide / iGo200plus all the more for it.

I also installed Navigator recently and was extremely disappointed with the quality of the display and the speed of route calculation.

Cheers, I've already made the amendments for the spoken warnings, and now just need to test it. The way that this skin author has implemented the warnings is slightly different, so I need to see if it is still necessary to change the behaviour of the specs cameras.

Hopefully I'll have something to upload by tomorrow.;)

I'm sure it will be possible to tweak 8 to make it what I want I'm just not sure I can be bothered :) And your caveat "(with improved maps)" is quite a sticking point - I'm not sure they ever will be - the latest TeleAtlas (10/07) still have not noticed changes in my town center, including several roads that are now a shopping precinct, a one-way system and a couple of roads that have vanished under a shopping arcade all of which are at least eight years old (which is as long as I've know the area). I also know of two (major) junctions close to me where the maps incorrectly say you can turn right onto the A4 and one where it thinks you can turn left. And this is in London, all within two miles of my home - a very small sample area. And I don't think I've ever taken a long journey without falling foul of at least one mapping error. As you can tell this is a pet peev of mine - sorry, Its just that I hate that the best nav software in the word is let down by such lousy maps. OK I'll shut up about it now

Ta for the info on "click and hold" on the zoom icons - I actually did know that (just for a change I did RTFM) but it does not seem to stick for ever, couple of times something caused the overview to resume its default zoom setting.

Thanks for the 2006 skin link - will try it. Currently using your amended "Andy". It's a nice clean skin but for me its still a toss up between that and "Riks". I really like his split screen with the ability to display TMC info right on the map screen.

For whoever it was commenting on the MyGuide power consumption when on standby - as someone else mentioned; do exit any nav software as that at least reduces the power going to the GPS receiver. I find that mine will sit for about four days on standby before the power level drops into the red. I'd suggest if leaving it for an extended period that you simply plug it into the usb port on a PC - many (most??) PC's still supply power to the usb ports even when turned off (as long as they are plugged into the mains and the main switch on the PSU (if there is one) is on.

Hi Mark,

I totally agree about the maps, but on the myguide at the moment it seems to be a choice between good maps or good software, which as you say, is rather irritating.

I have used the teleatlas website to inform them of a number of mapping errors but never heard anything back, despite their websites claim that they will keep you informed. To be honest, I don't really understand why they are so out of date. If you even just use google earth it is easy to overlay the teleatlas map on the satellite photography, and many errors are very obvious.

Maybe there is some hope in the fact that tomtom are in the process of buying teleatlas (who have apparently never made a profit). Tomtom may allow their 'map share' updates to be fed back to teleatlas, who have stated that they will continue to supply maps to other companies. I think that navteq are now owned by nokia, so I don't know what devices will be able to use their maps in the future.

I don't think it's just the Myguide though - I must have looked at the software from most of the major Satnav's now and none of it impresses as much as iGO. Last thing I tried was Garmin Mobile on my PDA and while the mapping is superb (Navteq) the software is cumbersome, un-intuitive and inflexible. Same goes for Navigon (though it's better than most) which is used by several other Satnavs. Route66 is not the worst but it's no iGO and again is used by severl makes.

The new TomTom looks much better and much revised from previos versions from the screenshots I've seen but of course will probably be TT devices only :(

I suspect that TeleAtlas maps are cheaper though I could be wrong. Seems to me that most of the lower-end sat navs use TeleAtlas and I have to assume that it is because of cost. Navteq maps are that much better but keeping them up to date must be an enormous task.

I can't see Navteq's customers being affected much if they are owned by Nokia - most of the built-in market seems to use Navteq, including I think, BMW and Merc, even my wifes Renault Vel Satis uses Navteq. I guess all the Renault range do since they use Satnav's based on or built by VDO Dayton and as far as I know they use Navteq (could be wrong about that though).

Anyway surely Nokia would be insane to buy up a high-running cost business like Navteq and then restrict their sales to Nokia mobile phones!

I'm loving this skin but I was previously using the MioPlus skin which had a really neat feature I now miss badly.
It allowed me the ability to press the next street area at the top of the display and repeat the last spoken voice direction.
Does anyone know how to add that feature into the latest AndySK8_5_1d skin?

I'm currently making a few amendments to this skin. I'll try to have a look at the skin you mention and see if there is a script that be used.

At the moment I've added my english voices for the speedcams, disabled the average speed part of the specs camera handling (this was causing a fatal error and reboot on my machine) so they work like all other camera warnings and repositioned some of the screen elements. I'm now just trying to find a way of repositioning the camera warnings when in split screen mode.

I've put iGO8 on MyGuide3100 and it works pretty well. Very slick and fast. I've got oly a couple of issues. First of all I do not have a Home button anymore. I wonder if it is possibel to put it. Also is the format for speed cameras same as in iGO 2006? I copied SpeedCameras.txt into speedcameras folder and enabled alerts but received nothing.

Have a look at your SpeedCamText.txt file in notepad and make sure that is in the following format:

X,Y,Type,Speed,DirType,Direction
-7.64851,54.33752,5,60,0,0
-7.63583,54.35873,5,30,0,0

The following won't work, despite being fine on iGO2006:

X,Y,Type,Speed,DirType,Direction
-7.64851,54.33752,5,60,,
-7.63583,54.35873,5,30,,

If you have the missing zeros you can use excel or similar to put them back in.

Done!:)

Actually, it was pretty easy to get it to repeat the command. The hard bit turned out to be restricting the area of screen which activated it. As this skin uses a sunvisor, the voice was activating with a tap in about the top 15mm of map screen (when you look at the sunvisor think of the graphic as a rectangle, but with a portion of it completely transparent, it is therefore much bigger than the white line at the top in the mioplus skin), which was annoying if you were trying to place a cursor point for a poi or similar at the top of the map. The solution was to overlay a completely transparent bitmap image just over the streetname, and activate the voice on that image when touched. Turns out that creating a compressed transparent bitmap for this thing is a real pain! Kudos to any skin author that creates their own graphics.

Anyway, you probably didn't want to know any of that!;)

I've also now added 'off' as an option for the 4th info box, as I prefer the time in the 5th box (most of the time I wouldn't need any of the other options), and done a few more tweaks to the display.

Now it's just the position of the speed warnings on the split screen that I want to try and crack, but to be honest I fear that may be beyond me.

EDIT: Turns out it wasn't beyond me after all.:)

Actually I never understood what the sunvisor was ... I though it just added a sort of shade pattern over the myguide ... so never really used it! Did it have some other function other than just shading on the screen?
Is there any doc for the new skin when u make it available?

Ok folks, here is my first effort:

http://rapidshare.com/files/116058525/AndySK8_5_1dm.zip.html

Please be gentle!

The differences are subtle from the original, but there are quite a few of them.

Full credit to the original authors.

This is purely a 320x240 skin designed for the myguide 3100, and so doesn't include the bluetooth stuff etc.

I've found several neat touches since initially installing, such as tapping the large speedometer cycles through a number of different displays. Also selecting the top icon for the route in splitscreen mode brings up the avoid menu. Looking at the code I think there may be an option to display tmc data in the splitscreen also, but I don't have tmc to test it. I'm sure there are probably more.

Let me know what you think;)

The sunvisor is there purely to provide a better contrast for the streetname and directions at the top of the screen. It only really applies in this skin when viewing full screen (hiding the menu on the left).

Re iGO8: It's up to you really. It is quite stable if you don't use a TTS voice.

Good job Darkmatter.

I found the female speed camera warnings to be a little quiet so I edited them to increase the volume somewhat. The only issue is that it's now a 7mb zip file instead of roughly 2.5mb. The larger file-size doesn't affect performance though.

Hi,
I got my self into all sorts of trouble upgrading maps, interface etc but got saved by the efforts of bobf.

So I just want to say a big thanks, my myguide is fully operational and really good with the upgrades, so much so that I'm even considering getting another now I can see how good it can be.

I'm a believer in giving something back, my problem was finding all the info, getting it together in the right place as it's quite scattered about so to help others I have created a myGuide user access point on my server. ;)

Log in details further down.

It is a graphical download/upload area with all the files needed to get your myGuide up to date.
It includes the right map download links for the licence file included. I'm not hosting the actual maps, just a direct link to the right ones (in a file which you can cut/paste the url). Its a bit pointless hosting them if they are already out there and they would kill my bandwidth.

Its all in a nice easy to use format and will save hours of hunting down.

So here it is, all wrapped up in one place. Feel free to contribute.

url: www.hotdisk.co.uk
www_dot_hotdisk_dot_co_dot_uk

Uploads are also possible. There is a bandwidth restriction so no map uploads/downloads pls, just the links which can be added to the map link file.

You can download all the files in a archive and uncompress on your PC or do them one at a time, it's up to you.

There is no instruction for installing skins if someone wants to add this.

Hope this helps,

Cheers

Nice idea, as although there is plenty of info in this thread, a single (big) thread is not the easiest place to find it. Hopefully people will help to keep the info up-to-date. Would it be useful if some of the more frequent posters on here added the URL to their signatures maybe?

I pressed re-set and everything is working as it was but no new skin. Have I missed a step somewhere?

The zip files that you have copied into your IGO folder should be in a folder called SKIN which you need to create inside your IGO folder. Sorry if I wasn't clear.;)

No, these two folders (SKIN & SCHEME) should be sitting alongside your LANG, MAPS, POI & VOICE folders. The SCHEME folder should have been there already, so you just need (in fact the schemes are optional) to copy the dimka & dimka_n files into there.

I have not found a waterproof cover for the MG but I have driven thousands of miles in all weather with the MG just in the top clear plastic bit of my tank bag with no prob's...

OK silly question time ....

I have the European Mapping SD card for MyGuide. I want to be able to put these maps onto another larger SD card along with some other stuff (games, music) is there a way I can allow the MyGuide software to see the Euro maps on a new card?

If I try and move the maps *which I have paid for* then I get an error saying the maps aren't licensed. I guess this is a CPRM issue that I can't overcome. I know I can get Euro Maps for iGo but I'd like to have the option to switch to plain old MyGuide with the maps I paid for and some additional stuff too ...

Another idea I had was to delete some of maps on the 1Gb card that I'm unlikely to use and therefore free up some space but I'm worried that this would also invalidate the license for the maps I'd like to continue using.

Sorry if this is a silly question.

I know that the UK & Ireland maps can be moved without a problem to a new card, so I would be surprised if they have changed the system for the Euro maps. How are you doing it?

Well I can move the UK and Ireland maps over to a new card fine but the map I really want to use with plain old MyGuide software (France) ends up locked :(

The reason I want to allow for this is to gift a Myguide to a relative and give the complete technophobe the ability to use MyGuide to Navigate in France and the UK and also to use the hardware to play Mp3s and games.

I'm quite happy to bypass the MyGuide software altogether on my own unit and use iGo software instead but I think that my Uncle will end up hitting the "Navigate" icon and missing the "iGo" icon and therefore he'll end up with a locked France map.

I've already bought the second unit as a gift (I wonder how many others have bought multiple units as gifts : quite a few I'd imagine)

I wish I could simply stop the "Navigate" icon (which loads the MyGuide software) from appearing and make the "iGo" icon the only one which will load any mapping software but I've been unable to do this.

At this rate I'll end up with a Euro Map SD card that's totally redundant and a present that's only used when he visits us here in the UK.

Here is the latest version (1.1) of my Andy 8.5_Mo modified skin for anyone who wants it.

Full pack:

http://rapidshare.com/files/116395689/AndySK8_5_1dm1_1_full.zip.html

And for those who only need the main skin file:

http://rapidshare.com/files/116395910/AndySK8_5_1dm1_1.zip.html

The main changes in this version are:

1. A bit more polish on the graphics & layout.
2. Settings button moved from the left hand navigation section to the quick menu.
3. A cockpit/map switching button added to the left navigation section. This saves a key press, and means that you now never need to return to the main front page (unless you want to:) )

You have a few options,
1. Remove the "Navigate" icon in "igopath.txt"
2. Replace the "MyGuide" software on the "flash disk" with "iGo" and use the same button.
Both reversible if you need to.

For pgtips123:

I note from the readme text file in your hotdisk.co.uk file archive that you have had problems getting some settings to stick using a skin on iGO 2006 plus.

I think this is a sign of corruption in your iGO.db file.

If you don't mind losing your settings I would move that file into a temporary folder (just so you keep it as a backup) and then restart the unit. When you start iGO it should create a new iGO.db file which will hopefully solve your problem.

There are other (more complicated) methods available to fix the database if you need to keep all of your settings/pois etc.

Are you using the sys.txt that came with the download? Also, are you using the latest igo8 maps? Did you completely delete your previous version before putting this one on, or did you overwrite your existing installation? Did you reset the unit?

Sorry about the questions, but it's best to check the obvious things first.

Well, it all seems to be working now, thanks DarkMatter. I have not a clue what I did wrong before as everything seemed to be in the right place. What I did do was to delete the skin and scheme folders and replace them with your latest versions in post 811. I can only think I got something wrong or a file got corrupted file when I copied the file over from the pc to the SD card a couple of days ago. Now I have to find out what all those buttons do!

Try charging the Satnav using the car charger. If you are seeing a hardware error on the PC its more likely to be a problem with the PC's usb port - probably not able to supply enough power to charge the low batteries while powering the port. Your PC has no way of detecting a hardware problem in the Satnav (excepting a fault in the Satnavs USB port or cable perhaps but that's unlikely, especially twice).

This is something I've come across before - many modern motherboards have multiple USB sockets, but not all of them are capable of suppling the full quoted current (500mA), and bear in mind that this is the total available for all units plugged into the USB.

Two possible solutions are plug the sat Nav into one of the main USB sockets located near the other PC motherboard connectors (not the Aux. ones on the front or side of the case, also you could try temporarily unplugging all other non-essential USB devices to reduce the current drain.

I have also found that an old Motorola phone charger is perfect for charging the 3100.

Well this is very odd! It makes no difference if the SatNav is on when charging except that you will know if it IS charging because the battery symbol on the screen shows charging much the same way as a mobile phone does. Does the unit actually turn on? If so try it on the car charger, turn it on and see if it shows charging. I have to admit that I find it hard to believe that you got two successive units with the same fault (unless they simply sent the same one back to you!). And I don't recall seeing anyone else with the same problem (not that that means it has not happened before). The unit, if charging, should do so much faster on the car charger than on USB. But if it is really low it I think the book says it will take 12 to 16 hours.

Bit of a silly question but have you checked check that your car supplies power to the accessory socket when the ignition is off? Some don't.

Other that that - dunno:(

If the plug fits and it is rated "5v DC" no higher and rated "500mAH" or above it should work.
The lower the "mAH" the longer it will take to charge, the genuine MyGuide one is rated 2A (2000mAH).

I expect it would prove very popular if you made the car icon a separate skin which would work alongside any other skin the user may choose to use.

Re messages 811 & 836
I too am most impressed with DarkMatter's skins for iGo2006+. The Myguide 3100 is now a serious piece of kit.

I have request for a possible future skin revision: Could a transparent 'button' be put on the map screen to go straight to the cockpit screen and vice versa?
It would then be possible to change from map view to cockpit view and back again very quickly and easily. Miomap 3.3 has this and it would be a useful feature for iGo too.

Keep up the good work.

Mines from a Razr V3, but as the USB standard is just that then any with a USB connector should work. However bear in mind what others have said in this forum charging the unit from USB is the slowest method by far, it's always preferable to use the car charger, or better still a mains charger rated at at least 2 amps.

Hi Soak,

This was my original plan, but to be honest I just couldn't find any spare space on the cockpit screen to add another button (assuming someone has all possible buttons activated), so I ended up with the switch button on the navigation pane. It's not ideal I know, but does make switching simpler than the standard method.

The original Myguide DVD has a utility called 'maploader' which has a feature to create an SD card to re-flash the unit, this would do the job - but it would reset the unit to factory settings so you would have to re-install any modifications you had made...

Well here it is, version 1.2, which contains the mod requested above.

http://rapidshare.com/files/117142614/AndySK8_5_1dm1_2.zip.html

It's also available from the link in my signature, which also contains the full skin package if you need it.

The car icon can be switched on or off in settings>map (scroll down).

Please bear in mind the limitations of these car icons (which as far as I know apply to all skins that use them) namely:-

1.They are not animated in any way.
2.They basically sit on top of the navigation arrow (which I understand can't be switched off), so need to be large enough to cover it, otherwise it looks like a bit of a bodge!

Personally, I prefer the standard arrow. So decided to make it a user selectable option.

EDIT: If you downloaded this before the time of this edit, then please download again, as I've uploaded a new version with a couple of small bug fixes.

Have a look at your SpeedCamText.txt file in notepad and make sure that is in the following format:

X,Y,Type,Speed,DirType,Direction
-7.64851,54.33752,5,60,0,0
-7.63583,54.35873,5,30,0,0

The following won't work, despite being fine on iGO2006:

X,Y,Type,Speed,DirType,Direction
-7.64851,54.33752,5,60,,
-7.63583,54.35873,5,30,,

Which folder have you put the speedcamtext.txt file in? Are there any other files in that folder?

Have you activated the speed camera option in the settings menu?

Do the camera icons display when you are browsing the map?

If you are using iGO8, it must at least be version 8.0.0.29000.

They will not give an alert when you are running a simulation, only when you are out on the road driving.

I am using the Andy Elliot/DarkMatter SKIN. To test the speed camera settings I downloaded the speedcam.txt as mentioned by stew in post 416 as far as I can tell everything is working, I have just been out to test it. Two cameras near me are reported as ‘Gatsos’ and there is all kinds of bleeping going on in other places I think these are (or have been) mobile speed trap areas. I will have to look at the screen with someone else driving to see what the different tones refer to because there seem to be a few types of tone. As DarkMatter and others say you have to use it ‘live’ it does not work in ‘fly over’ mode.

I am sure this will be obvious once told, but what does the little icon on the right of the screen do, it is a dot in a small rectangle which toggles red/ black when tapped?

When you press the icon and it turns red, then it is recording your every move! In other words it's creating a 'track log' (you may have seen a button for this on the quick menu screen).

You can use these logs to replay your journey on the myguide, or they can be exported to a third party app such as google earth (I havn't tried it) and your journey can be replayed over the satellite imagery.

Is there a practical use for this function? I havn't found it!:) Maybe I could use the space for a more useful function?

Re your comments on the speedcam beeps. These wil depend on the setting you have selected in settings>general>alerts>audible warning. I tend to leave mine set on 'spoken warning only'. I also prefer to have a voice of the opposite sex to whichever navigation voice I have set, just so the warning stands out more.

Thanks DarkMatter, now I know what it is for I find it has been switched on for all my tests
of the speed cam settings and I had about 5 journeys logged which I have now replayed and deleted all but one. I must investigate loading into another program like Google Earth just to see what happens.

One use I can think of is for hiking/walking where you might be interested to see how far travelled and what route you have taken by overlaying the route on say Google Earth. But I admit you would probably know all this from the planning stage, but we all like to play with the technology don’t we!! Back in post 704 I was thinking of this (without knowing about the tracking function) but the battery life would be the limiting factor if you were out for the day. I still have not tried any of the things I mentioned then. But now I see you can buy emergency phone and ipod chargers which work off a single AA battery (if you Google ‘AA emergency phone charger’ you will see what I mean) now, I do not know if these will charge the battery on the Myguide but there are more sophisticated units for charging PDA’s iPods etc from two AA batteries available out there, and I would think one of these would probably work for the Myguide so I am going to try and investigate this next.

Thanks. Yes I have activated speed cameras alerts in the settings and cameras do not display in the map.

I do not what version I have. I tried a couple of others but they do not have an option for camera alerts at all.

If we are talking about iGO8, then they all have the option for camera alerts, but you must have a satellite signal before the option will become available.

I think you can find the version number on the second page of settings under 'about' or something similar.

The original Myguide DVD has a utility called 'maploader' which has a feature to create an SD card to re-flash the unit, this would do the job - but it would reset the unit to factory settings so you would have to re-install any modifications you had made...

Thank You. I'll try this this tonight when i'll get home from work.

WOW! There's some real clever people on here - I hope I may get some help.

The other day the maps and then languages wouldn't load and the myGuide was completely useless. I managed to format, then reinstall the files onto the SD card.

I would really like to get the myGuide back to the state when I bought it, at the moment I have a different version of the igo software working on the unit. I think it may be a newer version but since re-installing it I only have 5 digit post code search capability.

I would really like to have the unit back as it was, with the new skin that DM has and the speed cameras.

If it was possible, euro maps would be useful - I've just been to Madrid and would have been stuffed without a colleagues Tom Tom. I don't mind getting the euro maps from the correct source, if it means everything will be back to normal.

I have no need whatsoever for the multimedia, ce player, games or the TT icon that I have with no maps.

I don't mind doing it a step at a time, but is anyone brave enough to help??

This may be what people are looking for,
it is an "UNLOCKED" version of the MyGuide software that will allow you to use any "iGO 2006" maps.
I have had the problem of wanting to give someone a "MyGuide" as a present, without having to say that I have tampered with the software.

Download this file,
http://uploaded.to/?id=3bw2gs

Unzip, and you will have a folder called "PNA"
copy the folder to an SD card
insert SD Card into the MyGuide
press "reset" button at the back
the unit will start and say "updating"
when finished you should not notice any difference,
except any previously locked maps will be unlocked.
Place any "New" maps in the "Myguide/Maps" folder or "igo/Maps" folder.

**Note** If you have previously modified your "igopath.txt" or "Data.zip" please replace the one in "PNA" with you own version.

The chances of successfully upgrading the Myguide version of the software are nil.. I would recommend you upgrade the software to IGo 2006 there are many links on this forum to the correct software, maps etc.. the http://www.hotdisk.co.uk link has everything you need. Hi Jamie,

Check the name of the map you are using. You need one with 7PPC in the filename if you are using a version of iGO (eg UnitedKingdom7PPC_2007.07_071031.fbl) to get 7 digit postcode searching.

Once you come out then upon launching certain applications there is an empty space at the bottom. E.g. tomtom, tcpmp player.

Anyone found a solution??

Using the Explorer button to get the 'start' button visible, then:

Start > Settings > Taskbar and Start Menu > Uncheck 'Always on top' box.

This seems to fix all applications that sometimes get 'stuck' at the wrong size.

I have a question for anyone currently testing iGO8 v35389.

Can you get speedcam alerts to sound for when you are overspeed? I can get the approaching beeps to sound no problem, but can get nothing for the overspeed warning. It was fine in v29000, and I can't see how it has broken in v35389. I can't find any other reports from people having the same trouble.

Firstly, make sure you have v.1.2 of the skin + all the necessary additional files, and remember that this skin is for iGO2006+ only. All the required files are available from the link shown in my sig below.

Then create a folder called 'skin' alongside your poi, lang, maps etc folders, and copy all the files into that folder. Note, do not unzip the skin files just copy them in as they are.

Then reboot and have a play! I'm sure you'll find lots of useful stuff.:)

You definately have a folder called SKIN inside your igo2006 folder which contains the 9 individual zip files of the skin? There should be no other files in the skin folder.

Have you reset the unit?

Also, how can i format the Flash? Every time I try to install the new skin files it says I've run out of disk space.

Personally, I would leave the flash drive alone and just run everything from the SD card. With 2GB cards going for around a fiver it seems the best option to me.

However if you want to leave your current setup alone and you are short on space, just try it with only one of the voice files eg. UK_F_audio.zip, and leave the others out. You could even leave out all of the voice files if you weren't bothered about spoken warnings.

Regarding a folder tree, I don't know what more I can say, other than find the folder that contains your map, lang. poi folders etc, create a new folder along side them called 'skin' and copy the skin files (still zipped up) into it.

Like I say I run all my software from the SD card, so maybe there is an issue there? Perhaps you should consider restoring your flash drive to its original state, and then go down the additional SD card route.

Hi,

just to update you all on the download area at www.hotdisk.co.uk

I've added some bandwidth for this month as it was almost all used up and set up an email support link which will work in about 24hrs (so if you don't get a reply it not becuase I am ignoring you I just did not get it so please try again if you need to).

Seem to have been a few login errors on the server so pleae remeber it is case sensitive
myGuide, myGuide.

I've added versioning to the system so if you upload a filename the same as one already on the system it will give it a version number. I have to be honest I have not tested this as much as I'd like but I just haven't had time but it should work ok. It might complicate things as people may inadvertently download the wrong file so we'll see how it goes, let me know if it is a pain.

Lastly please try to remember to click the exit button when you finish to ensure you are logged out, it will auto log you out after a while anyway but it helps to keep the system freed up for other people.

Lastly i have placed some ads on the login page which ypu will see when you exit, please click one as you leave to help keep the site running and pays for bandwidth.

Hope people have fuond it useful, remember the structure of the files is exactly as it should be on your myGuide and the instructions for install are pretty good.

And a big thanks should go to the contributors, some people have put an awful lot of work into this, my myGuide works brilliantly now :-)

Cheers

You need version 35389. Version 29000 will crash quite spectacularly on the MyGuide if you are using TTS.

I have done quite a bit of tweaking with the TTS voices and sys.txt settings, and now have several voices that work very well.

I could strip mine down and upload it if you are desperate, but you may prefer to do it yourself.

EDIT: Note that v35389 has a problem with speedcamera alerts for when you are speeding. You can still use the 'when approaching' option to alert you of a cameras presence.

If you're willing I'd appreciate it. When you say "strip mine down" what do you intend removing? I can find maps (I think ;)) but all the rest would be especially useful. (only want/need UK voices)

I'll try and put something together tonight for you if I get time. For files that are too large for me to upload I'll post links for alternative downloads if possible.

Actually I've found what I needed thank you. :D

The only issue I have is that the Loquendo TTS voices are MUCH quieter than the non-TTS voices and are a bit stuttery. :(

Do you know where I can find improved TTS voices?

Change your igopath.txt file to read:-

You don't need to duplicate the file paths in both addons.txt and igopath.txt.

My addons.txt reads as follows:

Thanks for that - tidied the interface nicely
However I still have two icons showing up for igo2006
I have one showing igo my way 2006 & another for igo2006 (igo 2006 one works)

Is there a history file or cache or something that needs deleting or something
Just need to sort this then its all done :)

Thanks for the replies so far - this thread has been excellent :D

Not that I know of, although it is important to reset the unit after making changes to these files. If that doesn't fix it, can you post your two text files as they currently stand?

Glad you got it sorted.

To fix the stuttering add these lines to your sys.txt file:

[debug]
tts_min_ready_wav=1
tts_getaway_time=200
tts_expected_engine_delay=1400

[sound]
queue_length=200

I have modified voice files which correct some of the strange wording, such as 'turn left in the roundabout' changed to 'turn left at the roundabout' and which have all the volume increases etc if you want to try them.

I have generally found Kate to have the best pro-nunciation (why wont ebuyer let me post that word??) and most natural voice.

I also recommend that you give this skin a go:

http://rapidshare.com/files/120814721/iGo8_Plus.zip.html

It's based on teddy_b's latest skin (with a couple of minor graphical tweaks and some child freindly wallpapers added by me). I like it because it doesn't do anything too funky with the display, but adds quite a few useful features.

It's a shame v35389 has this speed camera bug, otherwise it would be perfect for me (once they improve the maps of course).

EDIT: By the way, I wouldn't bother with the 3d buildings. It's not that there aren't many locations that show them, but the MyGuide sometimes throws up an out of memory error when too many buildings are visible at once.

Odd....try renaming your 2006 folder to 2006plus and changing the addons.txt file line to

iGO2006 = "", "\\Storage Card\\2006plus\\igopna.exe"

Just in case your previous duplication of the path has added some quirk to the registry.

No good mate - same thing
I have also tried removing igo2006 totally and then resetting the unit - this leaves me with two buttons (both have smiley faces now rather than igo icons) first is "igo my way 2006" & second shows "igo2006" as before (just icons have changed) but now neither work!

Im putting igo2006 back on now

Any other ideas mate?
Is there a way to correct the registry?
Or is there a way to "format" and "reinstall"?

Get rid of the one on the flashdisk (after checking the SD card version is exactly as you want it).

Igopath.txt should be on the flashdisk.

Can you show me a changelog?

Have you activated it in settings (page 2) > menu > skin ?

The skin is a version of teddy_b's igo++ skin v0.7.

Features list / changlog:

- New option to always show speed limit on map (when available). The "Visual Warning" checkbox replaced by a multi-choice control with 3 options - "Off", "Only when speeding" and "On" (new one, to always display speed limit, as in older iGo versions).
- Added "Route Options" screen with additional settings (allow u-turns, u-turn penalties and recalculation delay) - available from new "Options" button on "Route Settings" screen.
- Added "Plan on Map" button (next to "Map") to the startup menu in Advanced Mode - to go directly to the 2D "route planning" map view.
- Added "Cursor" button to the 2D "route planning" map view to access enchanced cursor menu.
- Added volume slider to adjust volume of key sounds.
- Added "Scenic View" routing option.
- Tap on the target street name on the top of the screen repeats the last voice command.
- Increased the target street font size.
- The overspeeding warning range is increased from 130% to 200%.

ADDED ON 5/14/08 (version 0.2):

- Long tap (tap and hold) on the Back button throuout the application brings you back to the Map if there is an active route, or to the Main Menu if there's no active route (default behavior was - always go back to the Main Menu).
- iGo opens Navigation Screen at startup (bypassing the Main Menu) if there is an avtive route.

ADDED ON 5/17/08 (version 0.3):

- Added FlyOver Control Panel (can be open in flyover or simulation mode) with pause, resume and speed control options.
- Added advanced road blocking functionality to setup permanent customizable road blocks. Extented Cursor menu has new button to block/unblock roads, "Manage" menu has new button to access and manage stored road blocks ("Manage" menu has been splitted by 2 screen to allow space for additional item - switch between 2 screens by using "More..." button). Blocked road sections are displayed on the map using BLUE color (when using default iGo color scheme). For each block you can specify the weekdays, and time slots (morning, afternoon, evening, night) when the block is effective.

ADDED ON 5/19/08 (version 0.4):

- Added "Recalculate" button to the "Route Information" screen to recalculate active route using current settings.
- Added selection of overspeeding type - Percentage or Fixed Value (km/h, mph).
- Added popup info box with address and nearby POIs (the same as was available in iGo 2006) - displayed when you click on the map in cockpit, or in Plan Mode. Can be turned on and off in "Map Screen" settings:

- Added long-click events to the menu and exit buttons to exit from the application without confirmation.
- Added optional Current Speed on Map display (based on di/\/\ka mod).

(version 0.7)

- mostly cosmetics and fixes:
- "Scenic View" routing option added to the multi-route planning screen.
- Added Route Calculation Algorithm slider to the new Route Options screen (see screenshot above).
- Added "Route Summary" itinerary type (in addition to Itinerary, Detailed Instructions and Road List).

heya there,

I got my satnav about 9 months ago and set it up running Tomtom and Igo2006 and a few basic tools such as media players, pdf readers etc. Did have plans to mess about with it some more setting more progs but then got sidetracked etc.

Now I see that Igo 8 is out I'm getting the updates to all the maps needed as we speak :) (damn rapidshare delays between dl'ing)

I've read from page 21 onwards to catch up.....will have to read the first 20 too when I can to fill in some blanks :) Do have a few questions tho if don't mind :)

1. So it looks like memory map CAN run on the myguide 3100. Thats good - got the file and will mess about with it laters. Tried originally months back but got the error about not being compatable device when trying to send the info across from pc main app to pna. If I remember right from when first tested memory map back a long time ago on an HP PDA - it runs on portrait mode. Is there a way to rotate the screen on the myguide?

2. Having tomtom and igo2006 on the same machine, after comparing I definately prefer igo as its much more professional looking, whereas tomtom looks childish in comparison. The main problem with tomtom tho is the voices are a lot quieter than igo, with setting turned up to 100% obv. I looked through a bunch of ini files at the time on offchance was a way to boost default level higher but with no success. Do you know if there's any additional ways to jack up the volume level on it?

3. On the ppwarez site for igo 2008 I see mention that the US maps run in demo mode? Only mention of that within the posts though, not on the main link. How many of them are "demo mode" and what are the limitations of demo mode? As I see no license file that have to use like had to with igo2006

4. Anyone have any joy getting ScummVM working on the myguide? Similarly to the memory maps, had errors when trying to install ages back, so presume that may be worked around too? As be cool to be able to play monkey island etc on it :)

cheers,
Tuck

Yes I get an error message :

Make sure the path and filename are correct and that
all the required libraries are available

The icon is also just a smiley face - not an igo icon?

Hi there,

Afraid I can't offer very much help with your questions, but rather than thinking you are being ignored.........:)

1. I've never installed (or tried to install) Memory Map, but I know that 2 or 3 guys on here are quite up on it, so hopefully one of them will respond.

2. Try here http://www.ozpoi.com/Edit_Voices.html. However, I can't say that I have noticed a difference in the volume level with iGO. Have you just tried downloading some replacement voices? Alternatively, here are three English pre-increased voices http://www.ozpoi.com/TomTom_Voices_+3db.html .

3. Can you explain this a bit further, or give a link to posts where it is discussed?

4. I'm pretty sure it has never been mentioned on here before, but after a bit of research (http://forum.scummvm.org/viewtopic.php?p=34474&sid=c0d98fab6373732e19f8e6efcdc61488) it seems that you must use version 0.9.1 on the myguide. If you still have trouble then Gmcmen is probably your best bet for solving this, but he hasn't been around for a while (since post#863). You could PM him, I know he likes a challenge!

thanks darkmatter,

I'll give it a try with the tomtom voices on wednesday (moving house tmw - just delaying the inevitable by going on net for a bit :D). on the ver of tt6 I dl'd it seemed more equivalent at max compared to the igo/myguide being around half the volume. Really had to struggle to hear if was on a motorway with the background noise drowning it out. Though I expect I'll likely just remove TT6 especially as looks like prob wont get new maps for it anymore too.

Good to hear I can still have success with memorymap so can't wait to try that, and least I now know which ver of Scumm to look for so thanks for that :)

since the USA maps/poi are demo and missing lots of POI's in places, does anyone know if its possible to extract poi's out of the old .fbl files. Those i know were worknig 100% and simply pulling the poi list out of that file and making it into a .poi file could solve the USA problem till the real release is out.

I think what they are refering to is the fact that the only maps available currently are the ones that were put out with the February demo of iGO8, not actually 'demo' maps as such.

To be honest, I didn't notice much difference between the 'demo' maps for the UK and the ones that were released when the final version of the software came out a few months later.

I'm not sure that anyone on here has the official MyGuide Europe maps!

You may get a better (quicker) response from MyGuide themselves:

- Added option to customize size of Lane Information Signs (100% to 200% zoom)

ADDED ON 5/20/08 (version 0.4c):

- Added tilt settings to "3D Smart Zoom" settings screen.
- A couple of minor bug fixes.

ADDED ON 6/06/08

(versions 0.5 and 0.6) - previously only published on russian forum:

- Added "Home" button to the Find Screen (supports single click to open the first favourite on the map, or tap and hold to route to the first favorite).
- Optional compass on map by di/\/\ka, can be turned on/off in Map Settings, replaces 2D/3D button while keeping its functionality.

- Redesigned 2D "Plan on Map" view based on "Ultra" skin - removed Menu footer to give a full screen map, repositioned buttons, added "Center Cursor"
- Allowed to go to Cockpit Status and Trip Info Screens during simulation and flyover.
- Added "Plan on Map" button to "Place" screen when opened from "Find" menu.
- Added "Add Waypoint" button to the bottom of "Edit Route".
- Added detour distance and direction icon to the POI search result when searching for POIs along route.
- Added paging to the list of saved searches available in Navigation mode via "Detour" button.
- Separate settings for values of 3 information fields on the cockpit panel for navigation and off-route modes.
- Some fixes and cosmetic changes.

Darkmatter - after playing with this new skin and all the extra things it can do - i'm now convinced that you work for MyGuide or should do!!

A bug and a question for you... question > if i wanted to change the car icon to another - can I? What dims/image type is it?

the bug > if i click on the map button (left of the screen when in menu screen) it will show the map. If however i have a route planned at the time, i get an error dialogue box saying 'Failed to open file:

igo_se1/common/daylight/fullscroute/bmp exiting application

any idea?

I must say a big 'thank you' to you and gmcmen for all the fantastic help you have given us all on here!!

It would be handy if you could leave everything in (ie igo8, tomtom etc), but like you say remove maps, pois, voices, terrain etc etc.

Here is the upload - 5 parts im afraid

Thanks, but this skin is 99% the work of others, I have just tweaked a couple of bits to my own taste!

Re the bug.....I can't replicate this at all. Try another reset on the unit first, and then check that you are using a version of the data.zip that comes with v.35389 (which I assume is the version you are using). A lot of people have been caught out by upgrading to v.35389 from v.29000 without changing the data.zip also.

If you are using v.29000, then you are likely to have problems as it isn't compatible with that version.

question > if i wanted to change the car icon to another - can I? What dims/image type is it?

Not something that I have looked into yet I'm afraid.

It was a lot of work to get it to work right on the 2006+ skin I did, and because it is basically just a static bmp file overlaying the arrow it isn't to everyones taste. I think there are some people who have asked Navngo to supply them with info on the mdl format that they use for the 3d arrow, with a view to making a true 3d car.

I think it will be worth waiting to see what comes out of this.

If you can't wait, and are prepared to have a go yourself then have a look here http://artwork-igo8.blogspot.com/search/label/car%20collection. It should be easily reversable (keep backups of any files you overwrite) if you don't like it.

Just read the last 3 pages, this has caught my interest.
I have only one suggestion, that the mystery "addons.txt" maybe there as a "hidden" file, I am not sure if the myguide reads "hidden" files, but it may be worth a try.
When viewing the folder for the storage card, click "tools" "folder options" and "view" tab, then "tick" "show hidden files and folders" to see if another one appears.
Just to clarify the problem, if you reset the unit with NO card, the button disappears and if you use any other card (original) it disappears, so it only appears when you use this same card.
I think DM may have covered this, but I am too tired to read it all again.

gmcmen - just tried your suggestion, no additional files show up when hidden files are shown
and yes, the button for "iGo My Way 2006" only shows up with the 2gb SD card in the unit
If I take the card out, or I put the original card back in it, its not there

OK finally got it all, you have a few problems on there, lets start with the following:

1. Delete ADDONS.TXT from the NAVIGATOR folder.
2. Delete IGOPATHbackup.TXT from the NAVIGATOR folder.
3. Delete ADDONS.TXT from the ZIP folder.
4. Delete IGOPATH.TXT from the ZIP folder.

That should at least solve your menu problems.:)

There are a couple of other issues that I would tweak, but you may be happy with it 'as is'.

I'm not sure which version I'm using. The one I have is 1.27MB (1335838 bytes), modified 01/01/20078 12:28:46

Any ides which i have? I get the error message when i click the map button on the mainscreen (the one with the big iGo logo) and the menu screen (with the Sun Visor button) but only when a route is planned. It's looking for a folder that i don't have so am quite puzzled!

Can i just add that i was a passenger in a car yesterday that had a 3.5 hour route. I brought mine along to check how it went along. He had a new TomTom and he was gutted that mine had the speed limit of the road shown! His can't even do that! \o/

OK, I'm a bit confused now.

You are using iGO8 aren't you? This skin is for iGO8 only, versions 31442 onwards. You can find the version number on the second page of the settings menu in the 'about' section.

The description you give above sounds a bit like iGO2006 to me?

That has confused me too! I was using iGo8 and then managed to accidentally copy the skin into the 2006+ folder and it worked fine! How bizarre! I then deleted iGo8 leaving only 2006+ which is still using your skin and all the features without a hiccup!

I think we are talking about a different skin here. The one you quoted the text from in an earlier post (#934), is purely an iGO8 skin.

Looking back at your original post again, and your question about the car icon, I think you are refering to my iGO2006+ skin v.1.2 (based on Andy8.5). If this is the case I will look at the bug again, although I have to say I havn't had it crash on me at all....yet!

I'm not that bothered about the bug as i rarely look at the map whilst driving and usually stay in cockpit mode.

Well, if you fancy having a go at fixing it, try this data.zip. It's the one that I use and I think it's a slightly different size to yours.

EDIT: Re your original question about the car icon. If you open the AndySK8_5_1dm1_2.zip archive and extract \igo_se1\320_240\daylight\car.bmp (there is one in \night also) you will be able to see the attributes of the car icon. Unfortunately, you need a special tool to decompress/recompress these bitmaps into the igo format (I can give you a link if you want it), and you also need to set an alpha channel for the transparency, so need a graphics tool that can do this. You really need a car icon at least as large as the one I chose, as any smaller and it won't cover the arrow is all circumstances.

If you open the AndySK8_5_1dm1_2.zip

I'm using the 1.1 version of your/andys skin and I must say it is an excellent piece of work (not sure what I'm missing by not upgrading to the 1.2 version?)

About the only thing I can think of by way of improvement would be to change to compass direction icon... at the moment it points N ... but as N S E W etc are not indicated on the icon I always have to do a mental calculation to estimate dirction of travel (eg if compass pointing to 9 o'clock I must be travelling E etc) ... Could this icon be changed to something more like a ships compass type?

One other thing (nothing to do with skin ... & this may have been discussed before) ... I added about a thousand POIs now Igo 2006+ takes several minutes to start up ... is this normal ... is POI hangling better on IGO8?

thanks again

I understand what you are saying, but the short answer is no. Not by me anyway.;)

EDIT: I think the only thing that can be changed that affects the compass is the following line in the sys.txt file:

[debug]
compass_type=

Values are 0,1,2,3 where

0=Standard compass
1=3D arrow
2=3D diamond
3=3D deltoid (kite shape)

Not what you wanted I know, but you might like to play around with it anyway.

While looking at something else, I discovered the bmp file that was mentioned in your error message.

It seems to be part of the screen icons zip file. So either you are missing Std_Screen_Icons_v2.zip (the one I use) or Colourful_Screen_Icons_v2.2.zip (you should only use one of these files), or the file you are using is corrupt in some way.

The skin folder should contain 9 individual zip files, assuming you are using all the voices for speedcams.

The easiest way to make sure you have all the correct files is to log in to the site in my signature (hotdisk.co.uk), go to the skin folder and download the full skin again. Just make sure you keep v.1.2 of the main skin file (AndySK8_5_1dm1_2.zip) and don't put AndySK8_5_1dm1_1.zip in the skin folder too.

Mick,

I have my MyGuide running Igo2006 and Tom Tom, and I am in no way an expert. If you go to round about page 19 and start reading from there, you will find all the links that you require. You will need a SD card to store all of your downloaded info onto.

That's good advice from diburnside. Everything you need is in this thread somewhere, although I admit it has got rather difficult to find.

Step 1.
Get yourself an empty 2GB sd card (if you want euro maps), copy the contents of your original myguide card to it and then check that the software/maps still functions normally with the new card inserted.

Then if you still need help, come back here and I will point you in the direction of what you need.

excellent - thanks for the updated maps. finally moved home and got my internet back yayyyyy so time to start messing with the satnav tmw :)

Do these Igo8 maps not need a license file in the folder like the 2006 maps do?

On a slight tangent, now that ebuyer and a bunch of sites no longer sell the myguide.....is there any other highly recommended decent value satnav device that runs CE or similar that we can do exactly the same messing about with? As I'm looking at getting another as a gift for someone, (or give them mine and trade up a model :D)

To quote from my post #887

Looks like ebuyer have now stopped selling the 3100.

Seems there is a new range of units from MyGuide based on iGO8.

http://www.myguidegps.com/main/products/car-navigation/

EDIT: MyGuide club (http://www.myguideclub.com) now has free speedcam downloads for registered users. I don't know what the quality of the database is like, but it's nice to finally see some kind of official support/content appearing for the unit.

It wouldn't surprise me if MyGuide have left this new model just as open to being 'modified'. The question is will it come to the UK?

Generally speaking there don't seem to be that many PNAs running windows CE that can't be 'unlocked' to some degree. The Navigo units also available from ebuyer seem popular.....the forum thread (http://forums.ebuyer.com/showthread.php?t=14676) is even longer than this one!

You need to have the 'correct' version of the software. Then all maps released will work.

Try here:

It's v35389 with my pick of the tts voices included. I use this version as it is much more stable than earlier versions when using TTS voices.

You will need to obtain maps, poi's, terrain etc. I personally wouldn't bother with buildings as they can sometimes cause an 'out of memory' error on the myguide.

It also includes UK speed cameras from Jan 08, and the skin that I'm currently using, namely igo++ by teddy_b (with a couple of mods by me).

Note: You may need to reactivate the skin in settings (page 2) > menu > skin > select the skin from the list.

Limitations of v35389:
1. Unlike v29000, it doesn't include TMC Pro.
2. Speed cameras audio alert for when you are over speed doesn't sound ('only when speeding' mode), although the 'while approaching' option works fine.

EDIT: Here is an updated version of the skin. Just overwrite the file in the content/skin folder.

http://rapidshare.com/files/123366802/iGo8_Plus.zip.html

This version fixes a problem where the speed camera limit that pops up when approaching a camera obscures the actual speed (when the actual speed is set to display on the map).

You my friend are a star! That worked a treat!
Thanks very much for all your help with this - really appreciated :)

For those trying iGO8 from post #970, and who would prefer their TTS voice to say numered roads as "the A two three four" rather than "the A two hundred and thirty four", download this small file

http://rapidshare.com/files/123443705/Voice_TTS-loq-Eng-uk-f1.zip.html

and copy it to the content/voice folder, overwriting the file already there.

.

Been looking at this and have got confused with what goes where ...
obviously .poi goes in content/poi ...
presumably .dem is the 3d terrain? and goes in content/dem?
then we have .3dl & .3dc are these both buidings files ...

Also do the filenames have to match the filename of the map... eg if using map called unitedkingdomxxx... do the other content files have to also be called unitedkingdomxxx... or does igo look in all content files for appropriate content ... (eg can britishisles.dem be used with uk map)?

thanks

Yes, 3dl & 3dc are both buildings files (you will need to look at a major city like London to see any).

No, you dont need to match the file names with the map file. For example I have been using WesternEurope_2007.06.dem for my terrain.

I did think it was likely that the skin would deactivate when I deleted the save folder to remove my personal info (iGO recreates it automatically if it isn't there), thanks for the confirmation.

I have a 1gb sd and although it has come up with the menus it seems to be struggling. As I press a progrram I get the error message (Cannot find packman or one of its components) and in the navigate menus I cannot find the map files although I can see them.

OK, step one, delete everything from your 1gb SD card.

Step 2. copy the contents of your original myguide card to the new card, keeping the folder structure the same. Reset the unit using the button on the back, and check that the unit is still working as normal with the original MyGuide software.

Step 3. You might as well start with iGO8 (far superior to TT), so download and extract the archive given in my post #970 (http://rapidshare.com/files/123344983/8_with_kate.zip.html) to the root of the SD card. You should then have a new folder (along with the MyGuide folder) on the root of the SD card called iGO8, with all the relevant program files in it.

To test it you will need to download this file:

http://rapidshare.com/files/124251081/ADDONS.TXT.html

and place it in the root of the SD card. Then reset the unit again using the button on the back.

You should now have a working version of igo8 (with no maps etc).

You will then need to download the required 'content' files which are placed in the appropriate folders within igo8/content/ eg. maps, poi, terrain, buildings etc. I would start just with maps and pois to get you up and running.

You can get all the content for iGO8 you need from these links.

You may need an application to extract rar archives, in which case I recommend the free 7zip - http://www.7-zip.org

Hiya,
1st, thanks everyone for all of your directions in the pages about loading extra stuff onto the 3100. I bought one after all your feedback.
I read all pages on the forum and managed to get igo2006, V7, tomtom and the original stuff showing on my screen. I even had speedcameras and everything!
Tomtom and Myguide were not working properly - TT message was 'no maps found' when loaded and Myguide gave me a 'maps locked' message. In my tinkering i seem to have deleted something vital because it wont even go past the initial myguide load page when switched on.

Even worse i thought i had better cut my losses and go back to my original software and my 'original' folder on my desktop (saved specially for moments such as this) ...is empty! So i am stuck, cant go back and have no idea how to move forward. Is there a way to 'hard reset' this device, the reset button seems to be making no difference.

Can anyone help?

Cheers!

So I cleared my card, started again.
Downloaded a number of files and then created the folders as per your explanation (I think)
So for POI's go to content, create a new folder in content called poi and stick them there
Maps in the maps file under content. Replaced the text file and had a go.

The Myguide works fine. However, when I press the IGO I get the error message that cannot find igo or one of its components?
Any ideas?

PS do i need to download all the maps to make it work as I only downloaded great britain?

If you have extracted the igo8 archive correctly, the necessary folders will be there already within igo8/content/.

Have you unpacked the archive so that the igo8 folder is sitting at the root level of the SD card (next to the MyGuide folder and ADDONS.TXT)?

If you have had to create folders then something has gone wrong, or you have put them in the wrong place.

No, my unit came with an SD card, but that only contains the maps. All the software is on the internal flash drive.

If you have a card slot, I would recommend getting yourself a reasonably large SD card and do all your experimenting with that, leaving the original configuration alone.

I don't have any experience of a unit set up like yours, but hopefully the same tricks will work. With the price of decent SD cards so low you don't have too much to lose.

Maybe someone else has a unit like yours who can better advise you.

No you do not have to delete the internal software, you can run the new one from the SD card along side the original. Darkmatter has created an "addons.txt" to be put on the root of the SD card, this will give you a second button on your screen for the iGO software.

If you are trying to add custom poi's, rather than just trying to get the standard poi's to work.....

Have a look at www.poiplaza.com.

The files downloaded from here have a .kml extension, and you can use them in iGO8 as follows:

1. Unzip the downloaded file. Copy the chosen file with .kml extension file to iGO8/content/userdata/poi folder on memory card. Restart iGO 8.

2. Locate the chosen file in Manage/POI menu. With the Edit command choose Visibility and Icon. The default icon is Google Earth's globe.

This is probably the easiest way to add custom poi's, but relies on the data being in the .kml format.

If your chosen poi's are in .csv format (or tomtom .ov2), then you can use 'IGO POI Explorer' (http://inetcom.hu/mick/igo/) to convert them to the .kml format.

Note that none of these steps involve changing anything on the internal 'flashdisk' or original SD card, and are easily reversible.

Step 1. Get hold of a fast (150x) 2GB SD card. Smaller cards will be fine in most cases, but it's worth having the extra space for expansion given the relative cheapness of these cards.

Step 2. Copy the contents of your original myguide card to the new card (preferably using a card reader for speed), keeping the folder structure exactly the same as the original card. Insert the new card into the unit and reset using the button on the back. Check that the original MyGuide software is still working as normal. Put the original MyGuide SD card somewhere safe. To restore the unit to its original state you merely need to insert this original SD card and hit the reset button on the back.

Step 3. Download and extract the following archive to the root of the SD card http://rapidshare.com/files/128143536/myguide8.zip.html (password for the zip is 'myguide'). You should then have a new folder (along with the 'MyGuide' folder created in step 2) on the root of the SD card called 'iGO8', with all the relevant program files in it.

This archive contains the latest June 3rd 2008 release of iGO8. It includes TMC Pro (requires a TMC antenna), working 'Text To Speech' (with one voice included) and fully functioning UK speedcams (June 08 release with over 13000 cameras). The included TTS voice is fully patched with my previous changes, and the speedcam alerts are fully functional provided you stick with the iGo8_Plus_DM1.1 skin provided (which should be activated by default).

Step 4. To use the newly installed program on the MyGuide you will need to download this file http://rapidshare.com/files/124251081/ADDONS.TXT.html and place it in the root folder of the SD card alongside your 'MyGuide' and 'iGO8' folders. Alternatively, if you already have other programs running from your SD card, you can edit your existing ADDONS.TXT file to include the required code. Then reset the unit again using the button on the back. This will create the button needed in the MyGuide menu to access iGO8.

You should now have a working version of igo8 (but with no maps etc).

You will then need to download the required 'content' files which are placed in the appropriate folders within igo8/content/ eg. maps, poi, terrain, buildings etc. I would start just with maps and pois to get you up and running.

You can currently get all the content for iGO8 you need from these links.

UK - http://rapidshare.com/files/139824690/UnitedKingdom7PPC8_2008.01_080313.rar.html

The password for the folders and for the .rar archives above is 'ppcwarez'.

Another source for maps, pois etc.

You may need an application to extract .rar archives, in which case I recommend the free 7zip - http://www.7-zip.org

For TomTom 7
download this file: http://uploaded.to/?id=bb1hj8
extract and place all files on root of SD Card.
