Here are the games I have working on myguide 3100. If you are using any previous games from me, I sugest you replace them with these as some of the other were only trial versions and these are the full version. Instructions are in the read me file.

Have you any old mobile phone or digital camera ac mains chargers lying around? Read the sticker on on them where it says OUTPUT it MUST be 5v DC with a straight line and a curvy line under it and be marked "LPS". The original "myguide" one is 2A or 2000ma so you would like one as near to that if you want to play with it and charge it, I have one a Nokia DC 5v 850ma LPS which will charge but it will take longer (4 hours) than the original(2hrs). Does this sound interesting?
Well what I bought a "DC power plug 1.1mm/3.0mm" from "map lin" £0.89p (this is the small plug that fits the MyGuide for charging) got it soldered on and that was that. If you are thinking about this, ask an electronics expert to view the charger and the sat nav and give you advice.

i followed the recent posts and managed to get the TCPMP player working on my 3100.
It works fine but as soon as i put the zoom on anything above 50% the video starts lagging although the sound is still fine.
Am i doing something wrong and can anyone point me in the right direction? :confused:

Then that is not TCPMP player, it is probably windows media "ceplayer" you have open.

I'm also trying to install a media player and have TCPMP ready but when I try to install it I only have 65Kb memory available and it needs 1.3Mb. I suspect I have some previous attempts (Sompy) still installed. I've tried to delete them but can't, they keep appearing in ActiveSync. How do I clear them out?

Excellent information, Gmcmen!! I already ordered a charger from Holefarts but I'm sure this will help others, and your efforts on the software front are very much appreciated.:)

I find that if connected to the usb port it must be on, if using the mains it can be off.

Hi all.

:confused: I have the 3100 with TMC, when the TMC is attached i go to he TMC setting screen and the TMC is looking for a FM signal but it will not lock on to any station and i get no traffic news. the status of the TMC shows as 'No TMC' then changes to 'Testing' then changes to 'TMC attached' then goes round the cycle again.

It would seem like it just cant lock onto any station. I have read about people suggesting tuning to Classic FM but cant work how to manually tune in the TMC.

Hope someone can point out the error of my ways.

I am with Snowbob on this one. Its driving me mad.
I have connected the funny pink aerial to it and that slows down the rate of searching, but in spite of driving into London as well as around Epping Forest with the thing set to find a network there is no change.
How long should I give it before returning it?

I have a really big problem.......... I tried to update the license so that I could use european maps. I don't know what I've done, but when I hit navigate it says hardwareiderror almost immediately and will not load up the sat nav.

I think I have lost the original license aswell.

Any ideas, I need help!!

You have a few options, explore the map loader cd that came with the unit and you will find a folder called "PNA" if you copy this to the root of another sd card (not your myguide one) put it in your myguide press reset and it will say update and restore it to the original state, or browse the same folder on the cd (PNA) and you will find another folder called "myguide" and your original license file will be in there. THe "PNA" folder is a copy of the origional flash drive of the unit.

I had a quick look through this and many other forums devoted to the Myguide 3100 and would like to add my say:-

My Myguide 3100 is currently running

Windows CE Explorer
TCPMP multimedia player (MP3 & video)
Myguide software
Tom Tom v6
IGo 2006 (with all UK & European maps as well as many African and Far Eastern maps, Australia, all States of the USA)
P.S. everything including all maps and a good few hours of MP3 music files all fit on a 2Gb SD card.

To answer some questions:-
1 Yes a mains adapter from a Motorola Razr phone does work.
2 No - installing IGo maps onto the Myguide version of the software will not work (even if you replace the licence.db file)
3 The IGo/Myguide software is in my opinion better than the Tom Tom (faster and more intuitive)
4 The Full IGo software is virtually identical to the Myguide (slight visual differences only)
5 The TCPMP media player will continue playing in the background when the Nav software is running.
6 The speedcam database is easily installed and does work (I'm still working on changing the bloody annoying warning tone though)
7 I personally prefer the colour schemes of the IGo software to that of the Myguide as I'm partially colour blind and find the IGo colours easier to see
8 It is possible to add/edit voice files (I didn't say it was easy)
9 The maps are no more out of date than any other Sat Nav systems
10 As I said above all this software is on the SD card, so you will need to modify the addons.txt file - in addition use the fastest SD card you can buy - believe me it does make a difference - I used the same cards I use for my Nikon digital SLR camera.

I do as well, but I don't worry about it as IGO is better software, in order for igo to work you must replace the licence.db file, if the myguide software reads it, it will give you the error.

Thanks for this, about point number 6 changing the warning tones is not as hard as you think. (iGO version) It is contained in "data.zip" Make a copy and extract it inside is a folder called "audio" the annoying one is called "!alert5.wav" create another .wav or copy and rename one of the others as "!alert5.wav" repack to data.zip and replace existing iGO one.
Now for using the original myguide software there is a small difference as the data.zip folder will be in use and is on the flash drive, so browse your map loader cd and put a folder called "PNA" onto an empty sd card inside that folder you will find data.zip modify as explained above and replace the data.zip on the sd card with the modified one. Put the sd card in the myguide and turn it on and press restart and it will say updating and its done. If you want to put your name on it as I did here http://forums.ebuyer.com/showpost.php?p=205663&postcount=225 you can edit the images in data.zip then repack it and replace the existing one. ALWAYS MAKE A BACKUP AND TAKE NOTE OF EVERYTHING YOU DO, SO IT CAN BE UNDONE!

Anyone know what it may be that is causing the screen to not respond to me pressing it. Maybe anyone knows how i can boot into windows and not the myguide software so i can see if there is something wrong in windows which is getting control of the input but not the screen?

If you have a card reader pop the sd card in it and modify the "addons.txt file. If not use microsoft activesync and connect the myguide with the usb cable, press the explore button on activesync then open storage card drag and drop the addons.txt to the desktop, open it modify it and drag it back.

You can try this it may or may not help, but what have you to lose:rolleyes:

Hi all,
read this discussion with great interest. I happen to own a silverguide navigator 4000, which is effectively the same as a myguide 3300 (which is actually the same as 3100 except it includes mp3/4 player, a picture viewer (called Ximage, Xmovie, Xplayer on my flash disk) and a number of games from the start).

I've been able to do the tricks as described by gmcmen; created the SD card using his kindly shared knowledge and files (thanks a LOT, extremely generous of yours), changing addons.txt etc. Now I'm stuck. First: I can't get Igo working - it keeps giving me the hardwareId error. What I did is:
left my flash disk unchanged as to myguide stuff, except for addons.txt (I had to do the same changes as the addon.txt on the SD card)

which license.db file do I have to use and where? The one provided by gmcmen on the SDcard and copy it to the Flash Disk/MyGuide/ ? Or erase the whole Flash Disk/MyGuide/ directory including the myguide license.db?
I'm a little reluctant to erase stuff on the flash disk - dunno if it's irreversible. Maybe there is someone who done that back and forth...

Second:
Tomtom is not finding any maps (downloaded BE_NL_and_LU_plus_major_roads_of_WE 1409 as I live in the Netherlands); probably I do not put the files or directory in the proper place...

Hi, I was wondering if someone could help me with this unit. It charges fine, but when off seems to lose its charge within a day as though when I switch it off, its not really off. Or could just be it can't hold a charge that long and something is broken.

Am I missing something with switching it off, how long should it hold its charge (when off). Otherwise is all fine. Also whats the best way to reset it, as that didn't seem to work either even holding down the reset button.

If you search this forum you will find quite a bit about battery life on the 3100. They do appear to "run down" whilst switched off. I suspect that it's not actually off ... just resting.

The reset button on the back should do a reset even if the unit is switched off. Mine does have to be pressed with something that is smaller than the button itself, becaus it's slightly recessed. A thumb won't do it.

Just I think whats confusing me is no matter what, it carries on with where I left off, so its as though its keeping the state in memory, so I'm not sure if its doing that somehow fast from the sd memory, but I find that surprising.

Is that similar to what you meant by "just resting", if so, is there a way to force it to shutdown properly ?

I found it helps to exit the navigation software completely back to the main start menu. It will still run down eventually, but not as quickly.

The last time I charged mine was a couple of days ago. It has been used for about half an hour since then, and is still showing 85% charged. I am using the proper Myguide adapter (from Holfords). If you are using the USB then it may not be charging the battery to full capacity.

EDIT: Motorola V220 mains charger works fine, about 4 hours to charge from 0% - 100%.

Hi All,
I previously made a post about my frustration with the TMC service. Well I am pleased to report that something is happening.
I connected the pink aerial to the TMC thing and stuck it on a bedroom window. After a bit of fiddling with the screens I got it to TMC settings and "Lo and Behold" there was a station ready to be excluded, so I did. On the next screen of "show excluded stations" it came up as Desire. The interesting thing is that in order to pick up more stations I had to turn the whole thing off and on again - repeatedly. I currently have 20 excluded stations none of which has been identified as CLASSIC. Also I don't yet have any Traffic Reports.

As I don't have the unit with me atm I am working from memory here, but the Myguide software will only work with the Myguide map (the one that comes on the original SD card). If you have the IGO/TT software installed on an SD card, you need to copy TT maps to the root of the card (not inside 'navigator' folder). The IGO maps go in the 'Maps' folder on the SD card in the 'IGO' folder. If you copy the MyGuide map into here, it will run through the Myguide software.

Think I will clear the SD card and start again. Which version of the TT maps did you use?

Did you do anything to change the addons file other than just copy from the download?

Also did you get icons for TT and IGO under the navigation banner as i am getting nothing.

Any help greatly appreciated as this is really bugging me. I have backups so can at least go back to the start.

Hi All,
I previously made a post about my frustration with the TMC service. Well I am pleased to report that something is happening.
I connected the pink aerial to the TMC thing and stuck it on a bedroom window. After a bit of fiddling with the screens I got it to TMC settings and "Lo and Behold" there was a station ready to be excluded, so I did. On the next screen of "show excluded stations" it came up as Desire. The interesting thing is that in order to pick up more stations I had to turn the whole thing off and on again - repeatedly. I currently have 20 excluded stations none of which has been identified as CLASSIC. Also I don't yet have any Traffic Reports.

Ooh i've just realised my mum has this Satnav lol although it isnt set up yet, to get the maps onto it do you have to install the CD, then plug it in via the USB lead and transfer them over and save onto the memory stick?

Can I just check something. When you switch it off, and then back on (if leave button down for more than 4 secs or quick), should it boot back up from scratch or carry on from where left off?

Just I think whats confusing me is no matter what, it carries on with where I left off, so its as though its keeping the state in memory, so I'm not sure if its doing that somehow fast from the sd memory, but I find that surprising.

Is that similar to what you meant by "just resting", if so, is there a way to force it to shutdown properly ?

Yes, yes and yes. Several replies have suggested closing down the software before switching off. That's what I do.

I'm able to play video on my 3100 but I'm wondering if it's possible to get more onto the SD card by changing the mpeg settings for the files I want to play.

I use Ulead Video Studio 8 for encoding, but I normally just let the software choose the settings. This is OK for creating a DVD to watch on a TV or a laptop screen but the files are all between 1 and 2Gb so I can only get one onto an SD card (for the 3100). Can I reduce the size of the files by changing the settings whilst still getting a good picture on the 3100 screen? If so ... what settings? :confused:

I would try tackling one at a time.

Have you replaced the lincence.db in the IGO folder on your SD card with the one from filefactory?

Have you any old mobile phone or digital camera ac mains chargers lying around? Read the sticker on on them where it says OUTPUT it MUST be 5v DC with a straight line and a curvy line under it and be marked "LPS". The original "myguide" one is 2A or 2000ma so you would like one as near to that if you want to play with it and charge it, I have one a Nokia DC 5v 850ma LPS which will charge but it will take longer (4 hours) than the original(2hrs). Does this sound interesting?
Well what I bought a "DC power plug 1.1mm/3.0mm" from "map lin" £0.89p (this is the small plug that fits the MyGuide for charging) got it soldered on and that was that. If you are thinking about this, ask an electronics expert to view the charger and the sat nav and give you advice.

I ordered a charger from Holfards last week which was due for delivery today. No sign of it so I rang them and they told me they're out of stock and not expecting any in. :( So I cancelled my order and will be following the instructions above.

I got an AC charger from a well known auction site, however it plugs into the same slot as the usb 1 and has the following written on the plug:

The UK map was already in the TT that I downloaded, but I have downloaded TT6 Canary Islands v675.1409 from here.

Patch it, then copy the folder to the root of the SD card.

When I click my new "Video" button, the egg timer comes up, but nothing actually loads, and when I try to click anything else it crashes. Ive tried installing it on the internal memory and SD card, and launching through the menu or explorer with no joy. Anyone have any idea what could be the problem?

I've been messing around with my MyGuide that came today. I've got iGo installed ok, but I've screwed up the original MyGuide that's on it.

To begin with it told me that my licence wasn't valid for the maps I had, so I copied them off the CD that came with it. That didn't make any difference, so I copied the licence.db file. That didn't help either.

So, I copied the whole PNA\MyGuide folder from the CD to the flash memory of the device, and now I've got no cities or countries or anything. :mad:

Can anyone help me restore it back to default please?

Thanks for this, about point number 6 changing the warning tones is not as hard as you think. (iGO version) It is contained in "data.zip" Make a copy and extract it inside is a folder called "audio" the annoying one is called "!alert5.wav" create another .wav or copy and rename one of the others as "!alert5.wav" repack to data.zip and replace existing iGO one.
Now for using the original myguide software there is a small difference as the data.zip folder will be in use and is on the flash drive, so browse your map loader cd and put a folder called "PNA" onto an empty sd card inside that folder you will find data.zip modify as explained above and replace the data.zip on the sd card with the modified one. Put the sd card in the myguide and turn it on and press restart and it will say updating and its done. If you want to put your name on it as I did here http://forums.ebuyer.com/showpost.php?p=205663&postcount=225 you can edit the images in data.zip then repack it and replace the existing one. ALWAYS MAKE A BACKUP AND TAKE NOTE OF EVERYTHING YOU DO, SO IT CAN BE UNDONE!

I recently added the speed cameras and decided id look into changing the sound, (just as something to do really) i followed your second description, meaning i used the map loader cd. Anyway i unziped the data folder and went into audio, but the only thing in there is a .wav called "!button" nothing else? was the "!alert5.wav" only for the igo version and im ment to do something else? Also failing that i thought id change my logo to my name like you have. i found the logo in data/ui/common. but there is one called "myguidelogo" and another named "generic" both of the same picture. witch do i change or both? I only want it written in the top like how it is shown in your picture. Thanx again jsn :D

Mine took an age to launch the first time I tried it fron the SD card. Also when playing AVI's the picture was lagging and freezing. Tried it installed in flashdisk too, but no better. I had followed gmcmen's advice on setting video to raw. After trying every setting I could find, I concluded that maybe the processor on the unit couldn't handle it so removed it. A week or so later I had another play, and it works fine! I therefore think that the installation may be a bit hit and miss. Try formatting an SD card and starting again. No expert (more of a tinkerer) but another thing that could be a problem, could be the read/write speed of the card that you are using perhaps.

I don't know much about TomTom, but I think the maps need to be compatible with the version that you have installed. V675.1409 maps - after I patched them work on mine.

I may have got somewhere with this, but have not got a GPS signal to check. I have put the maps in the navigator file - even though from what I have read I think it said not to do this. However I can now see the maps via tomtom, but as I said I have not got GPS signal at moment to check fully. System does say that I have not got a useable voice to use, but I will move onto this when I have confirmed the rest is working.

At least I seem to have made some progress. It is a good job it has been quiet at work today!!!

I know Ebuyer has the chargers now, but I just bought the correct connector to make up my own from a phone charger.

Thing is, I've measured the DC output from various phone chargers and they vary enormously. A Sony T610 one gives very close to the rated 5V, but there must be a lot of noise on the line because there's loads of interference on the MyGuide screen when I plug it in, so I'm not happy about that. An identical Sony charger gives exactly the same result.

A Sagem one is rated at 4.5V but is putting out 7.8V. Don't fancy risking that.

I also tried a couple of CD Walkman supplies, both rated at 4.5V. One gives out 8.5V and the other 9V!!

I've now run out of transformers to try!

If someone could measure the output voltage of the Ebuyer charger (or the Holfards one, for that matter) I'd be very interested to know. Evidently these things are frequently way out of spec.

I had the same problem and couldn't get it to work either so gave up in disgust.

To get MyGuide to work again I had to to reinstall PNA. Read Post 275.

But if you want to be able to get just free maps (more maps than you can wave a stick at) to work you must install iGO first. It worked just fine with my MyGuide 3100.

I copied the myguide maps into the Igo maps folder on the SD card as suggested by Yorks and this worked for me with both Igo and myguide now working from the same SD card:)

Yes it does but why bother it doesn't fall off if you sit it by the hand break and picks up the gps signal with no problem

I have contacted myguide UK via email. They say that they're "shop" section of their website http://www.myguidegps.com should contain map updates and additional map data soon. But they're not specific, only saying that they're trying to get these online as quickly as possible...

...And I hope they do, as this seems a very good sat nav unit which costs very little. It just remains to be seen how much map data will become available and how much it will all cost.

Ebuyer offer Eu maps as well as a traffic receiver for the MyGuide 3100 but then you're spending £112 or £130 respectively.

I have noted online (on Am - a - zon and on Youtube) that the Tomtom One V3 available in America (which obviously ships with USA/Canada maps) DOES actually have an expansion slot on its underside!.. So if you can get your hands on the American version (it costs about the same as it does here but some are cheaper on the American Am - a - zon website), then you could potentially have a Tomtom One V3 with an SD card slot, and maps for USA/Canada, Europe and Australia (from Tomtom online store) at a total price of around £180-£200 for the lot!

Hi Jsn, sorry for the late reply, I must have missed this and a few others. For the pictures I changed both as I did not know witch one was being used, change one then save twice with the different file names. As for the !Alert5.wav I am using iGO in it is the audio folder, I have deleted myguide to free up space on the flash drive, If I get a chance I will put it back on an sd card and see if I can find it, I have looked the PNA folder from the cd and it is not in the data folder as you say.:confused:

Having read through this discussion I decided to try out a few of the things mentioned.
I changed Addons.txt and saw no difference. Changed a few more things (adding buttons etc), and still nothing changed. Decided to delete Addons.txt to see what would happen. Same again, no difference suggesting that addons.txt is not used on my version of Myguide (Navigator 6.1). Found igopath.txt in the "Flash Disk" directory. Made a small change to this and low & behold, these worked after I pressed reset. Can anyone explain why my Addons.txt seems to do nothing?? Thanks

I find that a bit strange, addons.txt is an extension of igopath.txt so it will always read igopath then check addons.txt to see if there is anything extra.
Could you post a copy of your addons.txt that is ignored to see if we can see the problem?
Also things can be ignored if the path is invalid or not found.
Have you added this line to addons.txt under [modules]

Explorer = "", "\\Windows\\Explorer.exe"

does a button appear for it? if not remove and replace the sd card while the unit is on (but not while running the navigation program) or press reset at the back to see if it appears.

I would be interested in having such a thing. Currently I have a MYGUIDE 3100 withTMC (which picks up stations but doesn't know what to do with them). I have just found the
original SD card which came with it. So I put it in today and have the basic system. Previously I had loaded up a 512 MB SD card with the stuff from the CD plus a bit more and was running it from that.

However I was intending to follow TEATREE's advice and ditch the MYGUIDE stuff for the IGO.

You will need a 4GB card that does not use SDHC.....However, these are quite rare now and will be more expensive than a 4GB SDHC card....Don't think eBuyer have any, so try ****.....

If I understand correctly you are using the myguide software and the arrows on the approching roundabout are pointing the wrong way. I've no idea why that would happen if you are viewing a UK map.
The easiest way to change a route is to bring up the itinerary and avoid part of the route.

I had a go at installing TCPMP. I followed the instructions - dragged the rar file onto the sd card, double clicked, etc. For some strange reason it refuses to install and asks me for the .cab file again.

Glad that's sorted. I subscribed to the speed camera database as described by sallyn in post #21. That does get put onto the internal memory. If you are using a different database it's probably best to put it there too.

Hope someone can help me out here, Just received the myguide 3100 and plugged it in to the pc via the usb to charge but it keeps switching off after about 60 seconds. I have the motorola v3 charger so I then tried it with that and the same thing happens with that also, is this normal or do I have a dud on my hands? Thanks for any help.

Does it switch off when connected via the car charger - if not then give it a good charge from the car then try boosting the charge with the motorola charger (don't bother with the PC's USB charger - it'll take forever) - this appears to be a common problem with the 3100, I'm not sure if it's a design fault but the best way to charge the unit is with a AC mains charger.

The unit uses a lithium battery so it's initial charge can take up to 14 hours - but at least it doesn't suffer the disadvantage of nickel cadmium's memory problems - so shorter boost charges will not affect the charge capacity of the battery.

Mine initially did the same but after a full charge it was fine and since putting an MP3 player onto the SD card I now use it every day in the car so it is constantly being charged and has been perfect.

My 'sys.txt' file is slightly different - The two differences are the line 'show_oneway=1' enables direction arrows on one way roads and carriageways and more importantly the line 'gx_orientation=0' sets the display to landscape mode. I don't know what exactly this file is but it sounds like it may be a POI file - if this is the case then the best thing to do would be to use IGO POI Explorer and merge the data with your current POI's - if you don't already have a copy of this extremely useful utility it can be downloaded from the IGO website using the link below:-

It's an excel folder, and the igo explorer only allows me to import files, any ideas?

Connect the 3100 to the PC and open IGO POI Explorer then from the file menu select import and import Igo database from device, Create a new folder from the Edit menu and give it a name. Then simply drag and drop the CSV file (if it's opened in Excel it's probably a Comma Separated File) into the new folder. Finally from the file menu select Export and choose Igo database to device.

When you run the GPS software you will see the new group in 'My POI's' you can then do all the usual things with them - like show/hide, change the icon, edit etc.

OK, feel like a bit of a jessie now. Pressing the reset button ALL the way in solved the problem. However, following that, igo would get up and running and then say some of the maps are out of date, which they shouldn't be, and it would only show me Poland instead of the rest of europe like it should. Hmmm.

I have had igo maps working on my Myguide and it seems the Singapore map was not working or was out of date, as the sign came up when I turned my system on: 'Some maps are out of date...' etc. When I checked in the main menu of the system and clicked 'Settings', and then 'Licences', I found which maps were working (All but one) and which were not (Singapore).

Put tomtom maps on root of SD Card, Uk map is in a folder called "UK and Ireland" or something like that, this folder must be on the root and not inside any other folder same for other maps.

I have managed to get games and movie player working on my MyGuide 3100, but when I press the music player or picture viewer icons, I get an error message.

I'm using XMovie which works, and has 'Movie' icon. Also have installed XImage, which has 'Picture' icon and XPlayer which has 'Music' icon. Both these do not work when I click on the icons.

I simply copied these files from the flash disk of another Myguide onto my PC, then from there to my Myguide system.

I have loaded igo 2006 plus but the cockpit button returns a fatal error and the unit has to restart, any ideas anyone?

I just fixed that by getting gps.

I have all the buttons for tomtom also but no maps, where do I drop the tomtom maps, please?

I use mine on my Suzuki, I just put it in the map pocket on my tank bag.
Instructions are very clear using ear phones, even with the race can.

Have you downloaded a map? It must be on the root of the sd card in its own folder only.

How on earth do I install anything on this thing when using an .exe file? It won't let me install anything on the Flash Drive' or the Storage Card...

I'm having real troublw with this, as I've tried to install tcpmp playre as well as other items such as games, but when I get to the install screen, and select 'Storage Card' or 'Flash Drive', I get an error message saying "this file cannot be copied..."

Connect the 3100 to your PC using ActiveSync and from the Tools menu select Add/Remove Programs.

I am currently running IGO 2006 plus (I've completely removed the Myguide version of this software), with all European maps and speedcams, TCPMP multi-media player (I only use this for MP3's), but have at one stage had Myguide, IGO and TomTom GPS software and two different media players all working from the same SD card. I have mainly had to find out how to do things either by getting help from forums like this or by trail and error (the last option is not recommended if you are likely to throw things around in frustration).

The main thing to remember is if you are not 100% confident in your own ability to undertake each step individually, my recommendation would be to get the choosen GPS software working properly first, Then back-up everything before installing any extras or additional software.

The system I use is to make a copy of a working SD card first before making any alterations, my digital SLR camera comes in handy here as I have a ready supply of fast 2Gbyte SD cards, also I sometimes forget to reset the 3100 after trying something new and waste ages trying to find a fault that isn't there.

Where did you get the programs you are trying to install?
These systems do do have an "exe" file to install they install from a "cab" file. If it is tcpmp that you want, I have made it very simple. Download file drag and drop it to the sd card, thats it, if you do that the line in "addons.txt" should read
Multimedia = "", "\\storage card\\tcpmp\\player.exe""

I prefer to have it on the flash disk, so it does not matter which sd card you put in with multimedia on it, the program is already in the machine and does not need to be on all sd cards.
Use Microsoft ActiveSync, you use "explore" button on Microsoft ActiveSync
and explore to flash disk, drag and drop "tcpmp" folder to there
if you do that the line in "igopath.txt" should read
Multimedia = "", "\\flash disk\\tcpmp\\player.exe""

To edit "igopath" drag it to the desktop edit, save and drag it back.
I found that if you open the player! before playing a file, select "options", "video", "video Driver", add choose "Raw FrameBuffer" then it will play video better.

I copied my XPlayer (mp3) and XImage (Image viewer) files onto my new myguide from my old one, but they don't work. The XMovie application works fine though. So I needed a music and picture viewer.

Also, now I have Explorer, what can I install for use in here that is free?

Also anything else that can be installed on the myguide 3100..?

A question about poi's. I've read that you can combine all poi's onto a csv file from which everything can on the map you use. From POIplaza you can download lots of different things individually for example and it'd be useful to have all of these individual components on one file.

I guess what i really asking for (gmcmen :D ;) )is an idiot's guide to construct this csv, using data which seems to be downloadable in a number of file suffixes, which i can't open as a csv file.

Any help for this poor old idiot would be much appreciated.

I installed foxit reader and it was quite easy. Just go to the foxit website and download the Foxit Reader for Windows CE 5.0 evaluation version. Copy the exe to the root of your SD card and add this to addons.txt (i have it in my modules section)
PDF = "", "\\storage card\\FoxitReader.exe"
That's it.
Copy a PDF onto the device, do a reset and you should be able to open it no problem.

I have loaded a calculator onto MyGuide. Have a look at this link

It is a few weeks since I did it so hopefully this is enough information. You will need to download the one for the ARM processor under the Windows CE section. Once you have the download is a self extracting zip file that will sync with MyGuide via ActiveSync. I found I needed to set up the button size etc once it was installed to fit it on the screen: Go to View > Options > View > Main Keypad. Rows 4, Cols 5, Width 35, Height 30. I think that was all I changed. To exit the calculator you need to use View > Hide.

You can add it to addons.txt in the normal way to get the launch button.

Again a month or so ago, but I don’t recall any problems. yetanotherhomepage is a great source of stuff (a bit hit or miss on if it loads or not).

If you do go for Excel then I found the built in keyboard would not always pop up. So I have installed jotkbd.exe also from yetanotherhomepage

It is a quite big on the screen but if you need more space just selecting the function keys to make it smaller then add back the standard keyboard. (It was a bit temperamental until I realized it needed to set it up by enabling all the parts until I got to blank buttons on the title bar and used them to close it down)

Wow Stew, you're a flippin genius also - let's hope they work, eh..? I placed the files in the poi / speedcam folder.

Also, If you want to run certain programs on the myguide such as PDF viewer, you need to run Windows Explorer first.
But once Explorer is run, you get a blank bar at the bottom of the screen, when running certain applications such as Media Player.

Anyone know how to get rid of this problem?

The TCM receiver isn't actually very good - most people using it have said that there is little or no signal, and that it gives very little traffic info! I wouldn't bother buying it yet, and if you have, you might as well return the TCM receiver. Even the Tomtom ones are bad. The technology just isn't good enough yet.

Just to let you know, MyGuide have stated that the TMC isn't available on the 3100 in the UK. After testing both the MyGuide and the iGo on the 3100, I can confirm that this is the case. I can get almost 100% signal on the iGo (running from the internal battery), but nothing on the MyGuide.

When running from the car battery, the reception is patchy at best.

I guess this is why Ebuyer has removed the TMC from sale.

I guess the only way to use the MyGuide is to load it with iGo.

The TMC information is pretty good. I get about 12-20 pages of delays on my 30 mile trip from NE to NW London, and it has found some back routes that I didn't know about. It does only seem to work on Motorways and A roads though.

Stealingsilver - it's not simply a cable it's a complete radio receiver and filter unit. If it's just a simple external aerial you are after (some units won't work with certain types of coated windscreen), then electronics suppliers such as ****** stock a range much cheaper than a TMC unit.

this is how my one reads, you can use the same maps for 2006 and V7.

If what I have written does not make sense to you, then ask someone who knows what they are doing to do it for you.

Also, have you managed to get the screen centred on playback with TCMP player? If not, I have managed to work this out as follows.

Options - Settings: Click Select Page and choose 'DirectDraw'.

Make sure that Overlay Format is set to Auto, and that the first 2 check boxes are ticked (these are 'Overlay with colorkey' & 'Use Blitting instead of Overlay').

HI thinking about it I was trying to use them in My Guide........being new to all this stuff,(only had the my guide 2 days) I thought the MG was the same as Igo.........going to sort the MG to run IGO proper over w/end. I'm learning..........

Any Ideas as to how many P.O.I's the MG will handle runing IGO ??? Is there a limit like TT had ??

Hi, I would like to replace the mapping software with TomTom6 from my PDA. Will it work ?. I've seen many references to using TT6 on this unit, but am unsure if the PDA type is the same.
My daughter who is a new driver, finds this software a bit confusing, and I think TT6 will be easier for her.
If it will, is it just a case of amending the addons.txt to see TT6 and dumping the maps onto the root of the card ?.

She just finds the entering of addesses clumsy, and it seems to remember the last location and tries to navigate back to it.
Have suggsted she pesevere, but hey !, what do I know ?.

I have to agree with Bobf on this, I much prefer iGO over tomtom. I like dragging the map around in iGO, and I find it very user friendly. Downside I would like a longer list of favorites than work & home and advanced planning, e.g plan traveling from A to B when you are in C. TomTom has this option and its mostly all I use it for. I don't much like the layout and colour of V7, I prefer MioMap 3.2 this is what I would use most, it is just iGO 2006 with a different skin but I find it a little more colourful. I will keep trying different ones until I find the wright one, also it is a challenge for me to try to get it working. I have had lots of different navigation programs working on this machine, I found they were not user friendly so removed them. This is just my option and I think people should try different ones for themselves, hence the links.

If you are in doubt, use a different sd card to test. If your TT6 from the PDA is on an sd card put addons.txt on the same sd card with this line:
[modules]
Explorer = "", "\\Windows\\Explorer.exe"
and you will be able to explore the sd card find tomtom.exe and test it.

Hi everyone - have been reading through all of the posts I can - got a Myguide 3100 a few weeks ago - have been playing - think I may have knackered it - What is it with IT bods - cant resist trying sometihing ?? ;-)

In any case I was trying in vain to get either Ozi explorer or Memory-map to work on it - I had already succeeded with several other bits of software - dont know what happened - suddenly no GPS signal - so I mucked about couldnt get gps working.

I had backed up my SD cards and as much of the other folders ( using a combo of drag and drop in Vista ) and even Active synch in XP....
So after reading how it should refresh from Rom - I tried deleting as much as I could to force a refresh - I got Myguide properly refreshed as new - but still no gps signal - I cant seem to get into any menu that I had before to update the com port and bit rates.
Was I correct that the Win_CE installation is on ROM - and by deleting as much as I can and refreshing it in root folder ( in vista ) that it should have all come back now?

I saw mention in sys.txt on a previous post to change the com port and baud settings - in the sys.txt I have now there is no section for [gps].

Do I need to restore Win_CE from files? Anyone got that for a Myguide 3100.

After several frustrating evenings ( and partial nights ) I thought I would throw myself to the mercy of the forum...

any help greatly appreciated.

drag and drop this to an sd card
insert the card
turn on the unit
press the "reset" at the back
it will say "updating"
this will restore it to its original state (hopefully).

Thanks for the quick response GMCMEN, unfortunately, I have already tried this - and seemingly, it worked - everything was back to normal - apart from the fact that I still get the message 'No GPS signal on the initial screen and a red exclamation mark by the black sat icon on the bottom left.
If I click on the sat icon, it takes me to the GPS data screen, no sats shown in the grey circle there is a radio button style lamp flashing yellow at the bottom LHS of the sat circle, but at the top the first lamp has a red cross in it.

It could be a hardware failure I suppose - would you be able to send me some setup files from the flash disk or root folder please or post here so I can see the contents??

Here is another thing to try, open sys.txt if you are using MyGuide software it is on the flash disk in the MyGuide folder,
add these lines, save and give it a try.

The Myguide 3100 is a great little machine, made even better now that I have followed the excellent tips posted by Gmcmen and others

I now have iGo 2006 (my current favourite), iGo v7, and TomTom 6 running on my machine.

Typically I can't leave well alone and am experimenting with iGo8 (2008).

I have downloaded the program file (and a mod to convert it from the demo version), and all the European mapping, POI etc. (about 1.5 Gb)

I have put all this on a fresh SD card with none of the other mods/updates on.

I have changed the ADDONS.TXT to:-

On restarting the machine it hangs for ages with the message GPSAPP CTOR but eventually gets going. The little bit of testing I've done it seems that the program is fully operational.

Has anyone got any ideas on how to prevent this unacceptable start-up delay?

Interesting you have something I don't "(and a mod to convert it from the demo version)" if you would like to share, I will have a play as the one I had was a demo and has since stopped working. I preferred iG0 2006 so never looked for it again, but since you have it, why not!

The crack file gave a false positive on AVG. I couldn't move or copy the file unless my computer was in Safe Mode.
